Former Lieutenant Governor Says Election Law Should Be Enforced [Joe Miller Campaign]

Anchorage, Alaska. November 19, 2010 — The Joe Miller Campaign filed its reply memorandum in support of a Motion for Preliminary Injunction yesterday to delay certification of the US Senate Election until a series of voting irregularities, that could affect the ultimate outcome of the Race, are addressed by the Division of Elections (“DOE”). The campaign asked a US Federal Court for the injunction in a pending case which seeks to determine the standard by which write-in votes are counted.

--snip--

Leman stated in his affidavit: “If an election had been held during my tenure as Lieutenant Governor which write-in votes had to be counted, I would have directed the Division Director to follow a strict interpretation of election law, and let a Court direct otherwise if a candidate and the Court disagreed with the Division’s analysis.” He went on further to state: “Under my direction the Division would not have counted a write-in vote or accepted it as valid unless the candidate’s name was written correctly on the ballot, using the last name or the name as it appeared on the candidate’s write-in declaration of candidacy. The Division likewise would not have counted marred or otherwise damaged ballots.”

I want Miller to win but he loses a bit of credibility when he keeps claiming Lt. Gov Campbell was appointed by Frank M.

Yes, years ago to a different position but it was Sarah Palin who appointed Campbell to the Lt. Gov position when she resigned. She is also good friends with Campbell.

Joe needs to quit alienating the very people who will decide his fate. He needs Campbell on his side. So far, Campbell has only proven inexperienced in election law, not a Murky cohort.

I like the lawsuit but Joe needs to quit whining and just show the proof.

He needs to fight like a lion in two places: court and the court of public opinion.

Even if he loses by showing what a bunch of scalawags these insiders are he sets himself up for a win next time around.

Begich needs to go.

firelight: “I like the lawsuit but Joe needs to quit whining and just show the proof.”

I don’t get the “whining” part. The claim about Campbell comes from the article, apparently not Miller’s affidavit. Miller’s campaign may have brought up the issue of Campbell’s original appointment, but for all I know, that’s simply additional information provided by the article’s author. Either way, Joe Miller isn’t “whining.”

You are either for the rule of law or not. I don’t know if Miller can win this or not, but election law should stand as it was written before the election. Frankly, this whole Alaskan election stinks! Count the ballots per the law and let the chips fall where they may.

The one major argument is that US public education system that most all voters attended taught everyone how to spell! So: No problem; misspelled names had to be from ineligible voters (aliens not given the great opportunity of government ed.)...

Murkowski is trying to steal the election, as she always was determined to do. The question is, will enough Alaskans with integrity stand up with Joe Miller and tell her “No!”?

She doesn’t care what people think. All she cares about is her power — the political dynasty her father built, and NOT allowing it to slip from her fingers. Alaska is it’s base, but Washington DC is her real “home.” She is of the “political” or “Ruling Class.” The Republican National Machine is behind her. The Federal Government is behind her. And she’ll be beholden to THEM IF she is able to pull off this electoral theft from the people of Alaska.

I hope Alaskans as a whole have a lot more sense than that — because if they don’t, we’ll ALL suffer for their foolishness.

It appears that this is indeed in the 9th District.

“Mr. Miller said in a statement he was “gratified to have Judge Beistline recognize that we have raised vital questions concerning the ballot review in this election.”

There are some on FR who wanted Joe to just roll over and heel but I’m glad he’s fighting. If he didn’t, it would just encourage other liberal bastards to steal elections this way.
