Video posted on the CBS Los Angeles website shows an object flying through the evening sky Monday that left a large contrail, or vapor trail. While cruising the skies Monday at sunset, Sky2 captured on video what appears to be a missile making its way up into the sky from over the Pacific Ocean off the California coast.
Pentagon officials were stumped by the event. Nobody within the Department of Defense that weve reached out to has been able to explain what this contrail is, where it came from, Pentagon spokesman Col. Dave Lapan said.

Various "experts" have observed the CBS video, and some (including a USAF General) have, based solely on the video, declared the object to be a missile launch.
On FR, there have been several heated threads, with vigorous discussions between
and
Both "sides" agree (on principle) that study of the raw, unedited video with timestamps should help resolve the issue.
This posted CBS article purports to offer the "RAW VIDEO" and even challenges viewers to
"Judge for yourself by watching this raw video from Sky2"
NOTE: The small numbers at lower right in each frame are the seconds into the 40-second video.
NOTE: The large numbers (1) through (6) represent the frame order in actual flight sequence.
It can only be concluded that the "cherry-picking" of video clips, and the scrambling of their order in time by CBS was done to confuse the viewer.
Obviously, it worked.!
In comment 1395 on the FR thread entitled, Amazing Interview: Air Force General says "Sub Launched Missile, 100% Certain" , FReeper TigersEye wrote:
"What we need is the full un-edited video in the highest quality format that can be uploaded to the internet. Let the American people see and play with that. Also, the coordinates and altitude of the Sky2 chopper and time stamps on the video. A compass heading for the direction the camera was pointed too."
Every time I look up at the sky and see contrails, they’re quite long, but they never break up like what happened in the video. I would also suppose that depending on the type of aircraft it is, and visibility, that it’s sometimes possible to see the little split between the two engines.
They’re also not staggered due to no attitude or course correction.
That’s absolutely a rocket contrail because how it was made shows rapid course correction that could occur at high speed, with stabilizing fins.
Heads up! “Raw” CBS video — thoroughly cooked...
It DOES break into two from the two engines.
Great catch! Amazing! Kudos to you, dear brother in Christ!
The plane we are looking at has THREE ENGINES, not two or four, and the KNOWN characteristic of that model's contrails is they "swirl" together.
You can also see clearly that in part of the trip the contrail breaks into a large segment (for 2 engines) and a smaller segment (for 2 engine) ~ probably as the pilot throttles back to reduce power to descend into his glidepath into the airport ahead.
Worth noting you cannot see the ocean in the video ~ it's totally in shadow. The contrail actually originates OVER THE HORIZON. The plane is coming toward you. The Sun shines off the bottom. The contrail is lit from beneath (not behind since the Sun is over the horizon).
The proposal here is that CBS editors titillated your interest through clever, but deceitful, editing. I think the evidence is there that they successfully misrepresented what was seen and when.
Besides, if this were a missile launch it'd been nearly 1 mile in at the base on launch ~ and we don't have any 1 mile wide missiles (not yet anyway, but when we get 'em I think you'll know about it).
I live in SOCAL (I’m an aviation enthusiast) and yesterday was an unbelievable day for contrails. There were loads of them visible, and they were longer than usual, over the skies of southern Calif. And why? Simply because of atmospheric conditions. These pictures are nothing unusual, once you realize that the atmospheric conditions yesterday were optimal for jet contrails to form.
For more info, see this:
A large jet creates a HUGE disturbance, both by the engine exhaust and the low pressure areas of the lifting surfaces.
We've all seen air show photos of low pressure induced condensation surrounding performance aircraft in high g manuvers. A landing or taking off jumbo jet with flaps down could create exactly such a contrail if the atmosphere were really highly almost totally saturated with water vapor.
In other words, global warming...
I totally agree, Check my (many) comments on the long FR thread cited in #1, above.
As of this morning, I would like to end any further discussion of the mystery “launch” reported on the evening of November 8th. I have determined that what was seen that evening is not a mystery and it was not a launch.
Also, please do not send me any further e-mails on this subject.
There has been speculation on the Internet that the event was a missile launch from a Chinese submarine.
If a foreign power covertly entered the waters adjacent to the U.S. mainland and launched a missile, it wouldn’t necessarily be an act of war, but it would be a major provocation. A provocation of that type could actually backfire by increasing U.S. fears over Chinese naval power in the Pacific. That could lead to a build up of the U.S. Navy’s anti-submarine warfare capability.
During the Cold War, the U.S. Navy was able to locate, track, and if necessary, kill Soviet ballistic missile submarines at sea. As a matter of fact, U.S. attack submarines (subs designed to hunt and kill other subs) reportedly would lurk submerged and meet up with Soviet subs shortly after they left port and follow the Soviet subs undetected for extended periods of time. Furthermore, land-based and carrier-based U.S. Navy anti-submarine warfare aircraft such as the P-3 and S-3 could also detect, track, and kill Soviet submarines.
It is reasonable to assume that the U.S. Navy has at least a partial ability track the movements of Chinese submarines. Furthermore, U.S. early warning satellites and radars (such as PAVE PAWS radar at Beale AFB in northern California) provide the U.S. military with the ability to immediately detect, pinpoint, and track missile launches at sea. The Navy probably also still has a formidable anti-submarine warfare capability that would allow it to quickly locate and kill hostile submarines.
Therefore, I think the assertion that the event of last week was a Chinese weapons test to be highly unlikely.
Again, please do not send me any further e-mails about the supposed mystery launch.

No! It’s quite obviously a UFO from another star system!
Anyone who believes this was a missile and not a contrail - well, just stay away from me.
I found it strange that there were no reports from the area airports with radar coverage. Seems to me they could have verified the direction and speed of travel easily.
Has anyone heard any reports from airport radar in SoCal?
It took me about two seconds to find this:
And this:
Yup. It was clearly an airplane. With fire coming out of it’s butt.
They're very regular, and often there are several missiles in the sky at the same time. Some of them even have the "characteristic corkscrew signature" that everybody knows can only come from a missile launch.
I'm amazed that the military is just letting that happen.
What's interesting to me is that the 'Chemtrail' conspiracy theorists have for years posted pictures on the web of crisscrossing contrails arranged in the sky like a checkerboard; as a result, they're certain that the US government is using mind control gases on them and no amount of assurances from skeptics trying to explain that "Cooter, you live in what we refer to as 'flyover country', and that means that the skies above your farm are like a freeway in the sky. You can expect to see these criss-crossing contrails regularly depending if the atmospheric conditions are right, but nobody's trying to poison your okra crop with mind control serum." will convince them otherwise.
Yet, now the "Missileers" don't buy any theory behind contrails at all. Why, there was only one contrail in the sky on the day that Chinese submarine launched that SLBM missile two miles from Catalina Island!
Maybe we should rent out a hotel ballroom in New York City for a big national gathering of Missileers and Chemtrail people and let them go at it like black ants versus red ants.
You deserve a Buckhead Award for this work.
AWE808, then UPS902, now it is UPS702. What is it going to be next week?
Vaporheads.
Just wow.
IT WAS A CHICOM MISSILE.
They're flexing muscle and reminding DC they're not happy with the devaluation of the dollar. It's cutting into profits.
The next phase is making DC "an offer they can't refuse."
