Web censorship bill sails through Senate committee
Daily Caller ^ | 11/19/2010 | Sam Gustin

On Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously approved a bill that would give the Attorney General the right to shut down websites with a court order if copyright infringement is deemed “central to the activity” of the site — regardless if the website has actually committed a crime. The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA) is among the most draconian laws ever considered to combat digital piracy, and contains what some have called the “nuclear option,” which would essentially allow the Attorney General to turn suspected websites “off.”

COICA is the latest effort by Hollywood, the recording industry and the big media companies to stem the tidal wave of internet file sharing that has upended those industries and, they claim, cost them tens of billions of dollars over the last decade.

Translations can still be in copyright. Most Bible publishers don’t make a fuss, but they like acknowledgment. Safer to just use the KJV.

Good point. Thanks!

The Oligarchy gets antsy ...when the peons and presidents start getting uppity.

I suspect we’ll figure out how to float a “cloud “ server with a dynamic ip address encrypted by the digital equivalent of frequency hopping...that a client with the matching pattern can easily log into...for a given period of time etc etc etc..

what exactly is Fidonet?

It's a set of computer protocols that allows bulletin board users to share BBS messages and e-mails between bulletin boards. Pre-Internet. Relied upon phone calls between bulletin boards.

The weakness is that, compared to what we have now, it is s--l--o--w. The strength is that it doesn't depend upon Internet connectivity, which could eventually be filtered. It depends upon phone connectivity. With laptop computers being powerful enough to host bulletin boards, one could conceivably take a laptop and physically go to a truck stop and make the connections needed to transfer e-mails and bulletin board messages. Thus, it theoretically can be made almost completely secure and anonymous.

He also used scripture against conservatives who didn’t like McCain. “Before you concern yourself with the mote in John McCain’s eye. . . .”

The last election didn’t work well for the Communists. They must be thinking of what are they going to do when allowing ‘12 to go ahead unmolested!

A TOTAL Communist grab is not possible without a violent takeover, especially in the huge US whose population is well armed.

The violent grab can’t be accomplished with the existing excellent, state of the art communication between the American population and the world at large.

In descending order of reach, the Internet, talk radio, FNC and conservative publications.

Talk radio was the subject of Communist grumbling a few months ago (The Fairness Doctrine.) Yesterday Jay Rockefeller and Al Sharpton echoed the Communist thinking of shutting down FNC and (yeah, right) MSNBC. Now, it’s the Internet, stupid!

Cutting communications at all levels needs long preparation. They’re signaling the MSM propaganda machine to make the necessary noise to brainwash the “people who want less discourse and safety” from the evil Conservative Constitutionalist patriots or any opposition.

I don’t believe this is about copyrights or, say, fraud. They allow porn, don’t they?

How in the world could ANY Republican support this? I just sent an email to our senator (Kyl) asking him why he’s on board. Will probably get the typical “form letter” in a week or so filled with nothing but convoluted logic. Does Kyl really believe Holder is an honorable man and will not abuse this???

They want complete and total control over us.

China and Tom Friedman (NYSLIMES) are in concurrence just in time.

“When widely followed public figures feel free to say anything, without any fact-checking, we have a problem. It becomes impossible for a democracy to think intelligently about big issues — deficit reduction, health care, taxes, energy/climate — let alone act on them. Facts, opinions and fabrications just blend together. But the carnival barkers that so dominate our public debate today are not going away — and neither is the Internet. All you can hope is that more people will do what Cooper did — so when the next crazy lie races around the world, people’s first instinct will be to doubt it, not repeat it.”

And that is exactly what the left wants.

They are pushing so hard because they know eventually the simmering pot is going to boil over. And once it does, that is when this administration can go full tilt boogy on their agenda and implement their infrastructure in stomping "we the people" down.

As much as these tools need to be stopped, and as much as I half belief (if not more so) that they only will be by force, I fear any "meeting in the streets" would only seal our fate.
