Sarah Palin's usage/invention of the word "refudiate" in a Twitter message has again been referenced in a story in The New York Times. Setting aside the question of whether "refudiate" was the result of ignorance, an innocent typo, or whimsical invention, I'm wondering if Obama has ever made a similar gaffe concerning the spelling or meaning of a word. I know there was the "57 state" gaffe, the mispronunciation of "corpsman", the reference to the non-existent Austrian language, and so forth, but I'm curious about gaffes specifically involving word usage or spelling.
He has, at times, acted stupidly.
The 2011 edition of the Oxford American Dictionary is adding “refudiate” as a proper word. In fact, they named “refudiate” “Word of the Year 2010”
Such as, Jeremiah Wright gave me and the bisexual muslim kenyan crackhead a great kwanzaa gift today.
That example is incorrect as well. It should be:
Jeremiah Wright gave the bisexual muslim kenyan crackhead and me a great kwanzaa gift today.
epantsipation instead of emancipation:

“He has, at times, acted stupidly.”
Trying to get that coveted “Understatement of the Post” award? :)
Is that a rule? The “me” has to come second?
I understand he wanted to be a “corpse man” in the Marines...
“Refudiate” has come to be recognized as a cross-between word for “repudiate” and “refute”. Why do you believe this to be a “gaffe”?
obama is a moron...
Obama said he doesn’t speak Austrian. He also can’t pronounce corpsman correctly.
Yeah, Bill Weld had fun with that when he was governor of MA. Seems he might have been the only pol at the statehouse that knew the difference.
Did you ever get a look at Michelle’s senior thesis?
Calling an Army Post a Base...
Not only did he SAY that, but it took him about 45 minutes to utter that single sentence. NOBODY would believe me if I described how amazingly illiterate and/or stoned he sounded on that occasion. If you’ve not heard it yourself, you MUST track it down. Truly extraordinary.
Refudiate isn't a gaff, it is a new word and I like it.
I’ve never understood this silly claimj - she was obviously typing on her phone and anyone who has ever done that is well aware of the bizarre words that can result...and go unnoticed until you read them later in printed or large-screen format.
However, I was glad to see that she used “refudiate” (in quotes) this morning in her letter to the WSJ on the Fed’s latest actions! LOL! Go Sarah!
“claimj” - and I wasn’t even typing on my phone!
Don’t forget Obama uses a teleprompter. He doesn’t rely on his own ability to speak. It reminds me of a Jerry Lewis movie every time he gets in public. Either he knocks something over or says something stupid.
I thought I had that saved. Apparently not.
You know what struck me the most?
The stupid people, mostly women,, sitting here hanging on every word he uttered and obviously ignoring his bumbling.
I’m gonna see if I can find the video.
