RNC Taps Ex-Bush, McCain Staffers To Replace Outgoing Political Director (Hurl alert)
Talking Points Memo ^ | November 17, 2010 | Evan McMorris-Santoro

Posted on 11/17/2010 10:19:27 PM PST by iowamark

In the wake of Republican National Committee political director Gentry Collins' spectacular departure from the RNC yesterday, chairman Michael Steele has tapped two veterans of the last two presidential cycles to replace him.

Collins left in a very public huff, dropping a letter on the RNC's executive committee that all but declared Steele incompetent to run the committee heading into the 2012 cycle. The RNC reacted by defending Steele's results and pulling in two new people to take over where Collins left off.

Jon Seaton, former John McCain campaign director in Ohio and Pennsylvania, and John Peschong, a former official in the Reagan administration and Senior Strategist for both McCain and George W. Bush, will be joining Steele's team at the RNC as Senior Political Advisors.

Though the political struggle in the Republican Party these days often involves purging the establishment, Steele's selection of Seaton and Peschong ensures the RNC is grabbing the old of the old guard with both hands. Seaton ran Bush's Washington state operations before he worked for McCain and Peschong was a former director of ex-VP Dan Quayle's PAC.

It's unclear how long the pair will keep their new jobs. Steele is under increasing pressure not to seek a second term as RNC chair, and is expected by many insiders to lose if he runs (some say rumors of his demise are a bit exaggerated, however.)

Steele faces an ever-growing field of potential rivals that includes a diverse group from across the Republican spectrum. Among them, according to the Washington Post, is Collins himself, whose letter yesterday created more embarrassment for Steele as the RNC's January elections approach.

Why not Charlie Crist? Meghan McCain?

Peschong has chops with Ronaldus Magnus, Dubya, and Dan Quayle, so he may not be irretrievably RiNOsceroid ......

Quayle was actually pretty conservative, and an unjustly blackguarded and de-rated heavy on START and defense policy (which, ahem, has been back in the news).

But the other guy, a McLame staffer? Flush twice.

Here's hoping the old guard doesn't mess everything up before they can be replaced in 2010!!!

Maybe there are enough votes & spine in the new TeaParty group to put some fear of God into the old bulls.

What are conservatives supposed to do about ALL of the RINOS, still, existing within everything associated with the GOP?

And not send any of these dirtbags one red cent.

Starve the beast!

Send whatever they mail you back to them, in their envelopes, MINUS the postage. USPS *will* send it to them, and invoice them for the postage.

Beast is starved. Steele has them in debt to their eyeballs. I think a lot of us have been sending to candidates instead of these hacks for the last few years after reading Collins resignation letter.

"Seaton ran Bush's Washington state operations before he worked for McCain and Peschong was a former director of ex-VP Dan Quayle's PAC."

Nothing better than taking two guys who are proven failures and putting them in a position of authority because they have experience at failing.

Why not Charlie Crist? Meghan McCain?

The sad truth is, It wouldn't be surprising if the establishment did offer them something.
These two will probably end up haunting us the rest of our days.

Make sure your dollars do NOT go to the RNC but to conservative candidates.

Well, Sarah, Don’t expect much support from the old goats in the RNC. You can expect the same back-stabbing treatment you got as MeCain’s running mate.

Just one more reason to donate directly to the candidates and causes you believe in. Giving money to RINOs only empowers them to block and stall our efforts.

I guess we can expect to see record-breaking budgets the next two years. Apparently, Obama was the biggest winner in this month’s elections.

I don’t think Collins was a good guy here. Gentry is the perfect name for him.
