Perhaps we would’ve been better off just having it stay a territory...

Or giving it back to the Russians.

I think, unfortunately, that Joe Miller had some perceived baggage, too.

"She didn't run as an independent. She ran as a declared Republican write-in candidate. She'll go back with her senority intact."

Sorry, the only Republican on the ticket was Miller. Murkowski was not the nominee of the Republican Party of Alaska.

I have no problem with Murkowski running. And I congratulate her on her win. But she failed to support the very party she ran in the primary for. Her run was independent of the Republican party of Alaska, period. She "went rogue" to use the Alaskan term, and while she got what she wanted (another 6 years of gainful employment), seniority is not at her discretion or demand, it is at the pleasure of Mitch McConnell.

If I were McConnell, I would require Murkowski to publicly renounce earmarks, and sign on as a cosponsor of the proposed anti-earmark initiative the Republicans are promoting. No public renouncement-loss of seniority.

I have more respect for Lieberman who knew he might lose all seniority than I do for Murkowski, who thinks it is owed to her.

The Republicans owe Murkowski nothing. They were going to get the Alaska Senate seat regardless. On the other hand, Murkowski owes the national Republicans everything.

Actually, I’d be willing to bet that those who voted for Murkowski would have gone for the Democrat rather than Joe Miller.

And I’m guessing that if Murkowski hadn’t bee a choice, they would have gone for the Dem.

It looked like she was leading with “unchallenged” ballots.

Face it, it is all about greed, pork is a powerful motivator..The ‘special interests’ in the state want their pork and LM will deliver.

BTW - same problem in Nevada. That is why the lovely Sharron Angle did not win, Reid is the king of pork and earmarks...note how ole pinky shelved the ban on earmarks debate...

It is time for these states to stand on their own and for states rights to return. It is really too bad for Alaska, especially since it is so resource rich. Miller would have worked toward restoring these rights back to the state instead of being a big friggin loser like LM, begging to the fed gov’t for a few scraps...and then passing out the pork to a few chosen groups...

This is the big problem in this country, we have to fight it or we will be lost. Miller has taken on the fight, I expect he will keep fighting too.

You probably mean the NRSC, and they did support him - considerable resources and a number of ads supporting him. In fact, without them, he wouldn’t have had much of a campaign going as it was pitiful. They also sent attorneys to assist him in overseeing the vote count.

The Rep Senatorial Committee supported Murkowski all along

Yes, indeed - as evidenced by all of the ads they ran for Joe Miller in support of his candidacy and sending attorneys to assist him in overseeing the vote count.

Some people think it is okay to simply make things up without researching to simply play on a stereotype. You see comment after comment on this thread and others saying the NRSC did not fully back Joe Miller and that’s why he lost. That’s false - you don’t send him staff and spend all of that money running ad after ad to support his candidacy if you are doing “nothing” to support him.

Do you think it would have been close, or would Miller have had a substantial lead? I wonder if there were any exit polls that would shed light.

She thanked her “supporters” and told them that they “made history”. Sound familiar? The last maggot to “make history” is sitting in the Oval Office destroying OUR country.

Don't blame the Alaskan voters. Joe Miller won the primary, and liar lisa broke HER WORD (we all know what that is worth) to back the winner, before she lost. Rules and laws were bent to favor liar lisa, and the media with a full court press against Joe....this was foregone. Everything would be, as was, done to make sure that liar lisa won.

90k + thousand people went to the polling place, took their ballots, filled in the write in bubble and then wrote "Murkowski" next to it.

She should have gotten ZERO, ZILCH, NADA, ABSOLUTELY NO votes at all.

Our country is going to hell - when are we going to stop passing the buck and actually DO something about it?

It's not just Alaska either - how could Reid possibly win in Nevada? How could Coons win in Delaware?

Be it Angle or O'Donnell or Miller.

Hey, I liked Palandino. Besides, Lazio sure wasn’t going to beat Cuomo. The fact is, New Yorkers were bound and determined to vote for the son of Mario the Pious.
