'Naked' scanners fooled by creased clothing
the local ^ | 11/16/10 | staff

Controversial "naked" body scanners currently being tested at Hamburg's airport are constantly malfunctioning due to folds in passengers' clothing, broadcaster NDR reported on Tuesday.

The public radio station said the trial of the body imaging security scanners has been plagued by serious problems. The units, which have been in use since September, are apparently unable to tell the difference between foreign objects and such things like pleated clothing.

The scanners use millimetre-wave technology to produce outline images of bodies, with each scan lasting less than three seconds.

While some passengers are being asked to remove thicker clothes such as jumpers, NDR reported that the devices are regularly malfunctioning due to creases in lighter clothes such as blouses and skirts.

Although use of the scanners remains optional, every passenger must now also be patted down and pass through a metal detector, whether or not they have been scanned.

Maybe it would just be easier if they made everybody take off all their clothes.

They could be stored in the cargo hold, and the airlines could issue jumpers for the flight. Or those big wearable blankets.

If they did that, then we’d all be acting nervous, successfully camouflaging the nervous terrorists hiding bombs in their body cavities.

Double win, huh?

If they’re doing no good then why bother with them any more.

The Germans must be too safety conscious and have the radiation set too low. Can't see through fols, just up the the radiation to the level we have here. No problem.

Can't see into the lower bowel? Just increase it some more. People are swallowing bombs in condoms? Just make them full out Xrays and transmit to the prisoner's, I mean, the passenger's federal medical file. The passenger is on medicare? Zap every body part, it'll save a bunch of money for the government.

Patient: Doctor, I think there's something wrong with my hip.

Doctor: Hmmm let's bring up your last airport Xray. Ahh MIA last month. Hip Looks good to me.

Patient: But shouldn't I get a new Xray?

Doctor: You'll have to go to the airport for that.

Is Napolitano’s actual intent to kill the airline industry?

There is no logical excuse for this TSA debacle. Petted, poked, prodded, peered at by scanners and it is NO guarantee of safety. People have body cavities. Only a zero-radiation multi-level magic scanning X-ray machine will do the trick. Somebody get right on that.

TSA will never thwart anything. Ever.

So is Big Sis trying to kill the airlines? Someone remind me about Obama’s push to build high speed trains and subways. I remember the idea got shot down hard but I can't recall details. Yesterday Napolitano told USA TODAY, "If people want to travel by some other means, they have that right."

For now anyway. Amtrak (100% Govt owned btw) will be the next place they do this. Then it'll be Greyhound "Hey, the public travels on it and the Brits got blown up on busses!"

This crap will not stop until we push back and push back hard.

” it is NO guarantee of safety”

Correct. Only profits to the companies selling this stuff, like the business owner that went with Obama overseas.

While we are being strip searched and fondled at the front door by foreigners, more foreigners and illegal aliens are at the back door handling luggage and cleaning airplanes.

Yup! Reet pleats and the works. The silver suit is stage wear. The banana colored suit is for burial. The silver suit is complemented by a poison green shirt, and a bright orange tie and and hankie. I wonder if the silver suit would get through the tsa nudie machine? I doubt it!
