The color of murder and gun violence in New York

...Check out these statistics from the "Crime and Enforcement Activity in New York City" report for the first six months of 2010.

Murder and Non-Negligent Manslaughter victims are most frequently Black (67.0%) or Hispanic (28.1%). White victims account for (3.2%) of all Murder and Non-Negligent Manslaughter victims while Asian/Pacific Islanders account for (1.8%) of all Murder and Non-Negligent Manslaughter victims.

The Murder and Non-Negligent Manslaughter arrest population is similarly distributed. Black arrestees (53.8%) and Hispanic arrestees (36.4%) account for the majority of Murder and Non-Negligent Manslaughter arrestees while White arrestees (7.1%) and Asian/Pacific Islander (2.2%) arrestees account for the remaining portions of the Murder and Non-Negligent Manslaughter arrest population.

Shooting victims are most frequently Black (73.8%) or Hispanic (22.1 %). White victims account for an additional (2.6%) of all Shooting victims while Asian/Pacific Islanders victims account for (1.2%) of all Shooting Victims.

The Shooting arrest population is similarly distributed. Black arrestees (70.9%) and Hispanic arrestees (25.8%) account for the majority of Shooting arrest population. White arrestees (2.5%) and Asian/Pacific Islander (0.9%) account for the remaining portion of the Shooting arrest population.

In short, 95.1 percent of all murder victims and 95.9 percent of all shooting victims in New York City are black or Hispanic. And 90.2 percent of those arrested for murder and 96.7 percent of those arrested for shooting someone are black and Hispanic. I don't even know where to begin to describe the horror I still feel looking at those numbers. But the word "hunted" comes to mind.

The police are doing their job. Leaders in the African American and Latino communities have struggled to do their part, as well.

The police -- yes, the police are doing their job.
Leaders in the African American and Latino communities? Please! They are the problem. These are dysfunctional cultures and they need to get this message out. Character matters. Work matters. School matters. What these communities are doing is killing themselves, and too often their leaders see the situation as a way to enrich themselves (Sharpton, Jackson, etc.)

Does the article bother to mention the actual demographic composition of the city? Does the author admit that even though the ethnic makeup of those arrested is not representative of the population, it is representative of the crimes committed? Does the author draw any inferences from the coincidental fact that the rankings of criminality happens to coincide with ... something measurable but politically incorrect?

Wow, the statistics mirror the unwed mother statistics. But the party of Slavery tells us that we should pay women to be single mothers with welfare; we should have no-fault divorce; we should have gay marriage because women can be just as good as a father as a man.

So he's horrified that more whites aren't killed? The reason I say this is because in the same breath that he laments the killings of non whites he then complains that the law unjustly punishes non whites. Which is it then? Non whites are committing 95+% of the murders, they should be 95+% of the punished...my guess is that it's no where close to that number. He even alludes to it in his article that the "no snitching" culture has to change. This suggests that non white crimes are less likely to be solved meaning in a head to head comparison, a white is more likely to face punishment. Since he calls blacks more "over punished" one can only deduce that he simply wants more whites killed to "even it out". Affirmative action murder.

The problem with his scenario is that non-whites just don't seem to be as interested in murder and mayhem, probably in part because they are more likely to face justice.

Does the obligation of ensuring peace and security include removing threats from the country and the world? Does it include the understanding that having programs with hundreds of trillions of dollars worth of unfunded liability do not contribute to security?

Ideologies sometimes blind. It isn't guns "in the streets" that are bad, it's guns in the hands of criminals. But guns in the hands of criminals can be cured by guns in the hand of trained, good people. New York might have many good people (doesn't it?) but not so many trained good people and almost none with guns in their daily possession.

This was obviously written by a damned racist! Anything that portrays our brown brethren in a negative light, even when supported with overwhelming proof, is considered racist. It doesn’t matter that blacks comprise a small fraction of the population yet commit the vast majority of crimes. The facts are racist! Damned racist facts! I’m sure someone, somewhere is “offended”.
