I watched it. It is more about her family enjoying the outdoors in Alaska. It is a reality show.
It was good.
It's a miracle!
Bzzzzt. It's a DOCUMENTARY.
I watched it for about ten to fifteen minutes last night, and I’ve got to be honest: I like governor Palin a lot, but it made me a little uncomfortable, because it felt to me like I was watching a reality TV show. I don’t think I’m going to be watching any of the rest of it.
Shoot me...
IT IS FIRST “REAL” REALITY SHOW. COMMON!
Don’t be thick about it!
They waited about 45 minutes just for Sarah to complete that “climbing” task.... WHICH IS “REAL”!
Palin family is really amazing, coz they are just ONE OF US!
Bahh, it most certainly is a reality show that is why I turned it off!
And I am a fan of Palin!
I agree with the opinion in the article.
However, I would like to point out that REALITY TV shows are nothing of the kind.
They are just TV shows shot on ‘constantly moving remote locations’.
The final ‘cut’ that appears on TV has very little to do with the reality of what happened during the filming. All the contestants are pre-screened and selected for ‘niches’ of popular viewing. Every one of them knows they are being filmed. So... their behavior is based on that knowledge.
The ones that imply “they don’t know we are filming this” are simply liars.
“I want to show America, Alaska and how beautiful it is, I want America to see Alaska's many wonders....” paraphrased. The show speaks for itself. Watch it!
If the show focused solely on Palin’s family enjoying all of Alaska’s wonders, I’d call it a travel show. When we are shown the inside of her house and the stalker next door’s house, the show crosses the line to reality TV. Nonetheless, I don’t think the labels matter.
Its a stupid show and a really dumb PR stunt imo.
I think documentaries, including travelogues, now have to be considered a subcategory within the reality TV genre.
I watched it and thought it was alright, pretty much what I expected. But, To say it's not a "reality show" and is a "travel show" instead, is disingenuous, at best. Perhaps the best thing you can say is that it's equal parts of both.
While it's not "The Osbournes", it's also not Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, nor Rick Steve's Europe either . I have never seen Rick Steves' home, nor watched him playing with his kids or talking about his neighbors, nor have I seen Marlon Perkins cooking in his running shorts while watching that Wild Kingdom.
“Reality TV” is an oxymoron.
The only reality TV is a live camera being broadcast live, real time... be it known, however - they’re working on technology to make even that capable of being altered, real time so what’s real, ain’t.
So people aren’t supposed to believe their lying eyes?
Sarah Palins Alaska Premiere Draws 5 Million, Breaks TLC Ratings RecordThe ratings are in, and it looks like Sarah Palins Alaska is a hit. TLC says nearly 5 million total viewers tuned in to the premiere of the series.
In case you havent seen our previous coverage, Sarah Palins Alaska is a documentary series from producer Mark Burnett and starring former Alaska governor and Fox News Channel contributor Sarah Palin.
TLC says 4.96 million total viewers tuned in, including 1.8 million adults 25-54, and 1.6 million adults 18-49, two of the networks key demos. That is the best premiere in network history with regards to total viewers, beating the 2003 debut of What Not to Wear.
Correct.
If anyone thinks it’s a reality show, try voting Piper off it.
I don’t like it. I have no interest in watching other people’s families “interact” whether it be the Palins, or anybody else.
Of course, I don’t like any reality shows, and I’d term it a reality show. Never been a fan of any of them from Survival to the Amazing Race.
The truth about reality shows though...there’s really no such thing. How is anybody really real if they know they’re being filmed! (call me cynical, but that’s the way I feel.)
Allows her to speak to other than the choir..
Agree with 90% of her politics. But this show is a bad idea. If the Obama's had something like this going on in 2007 everyone would be saying the exact same thing.
