Flippin’ embarrassing? You betcha!

Sarah Palin has officially “jumped the shark.”

Last night’s premier of “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” will be remembered as the moment the once-promising, conservative darling crossed over into the absurd.

Part Alaska tourism promo, part window into the family Palin, TLC’s eight-part series features clips of the former governor at home in gym shorts and shots of the family enjoying the great outdoors while she calls out folksy comments like, “this is flippin’ fun!”

If that’s not enough, Palin takes Kate Gosselin (of “Jon & Kate Plus 8” fame) camping in the Alaska wilderness - the two women reportedly didn’t get along (Kate, it seems, is a bit of an indoor cat).

Conduct unbecoming a former governor and vice presidential

I agree. She’s way smarter about reaching the public than I am. It’s not my style, but I’m far from the mainstream—I don’t even have a TV.

TLC just set a record for itself with 5 million tuning in to the debut show and based on the reports I’ve read here I’d expect a good number of them to keep tuning in. Also, of course, TLC is rerunning each episode multiple times in a week.

Again, I’m completely behind her for 2012. What she has done and accomplished in the less than 16 months since stepping down as governor is just amazing.

It was actually a fun show to watch. Made my wife’s desire to go to Alaska stronger. Gorgeous scenery and the stuff the family is doing is just awesome. Watching grizzly bears fight while fishing for salmon. Flying through Alaskan mountains in a small plane. They’ve got a park there that is bigger than New Hampshire.

I don’t know besides that ape suit dance bristol has held her own. I think her fan base got her over that dance Bristol has done most of the rest. The judges do not like her nor her mother and are scoring her harder than the rest. Her fans are simply righting the liberal bent of the judges.

The reviews from conservatives and right leaning papers/blogs have all been positive for SPAK. the fact tha tliberals are fgoint to this length to degrade both bristol and Gov Palin tells you how much they fear these shows and they should.

Exactly. If "Bedtime for Bonzo" didn't hurt Reagan, I don't see how this show could hurt Palin.

Like I said, the hysterical hand-wringing and over-analysis I'm seeing is downright comical.

Relax, people, Sarah will be fine...

Yeah, but Reagan did the Bonzo routine long before thinking about being President.

Putin would climb the mountain.

Very true, and Look at they way those in the MSM and on the left love him.

For the left, they love to see commies do macho things. It makes them feel good, but to see a conservative woman do what they could only dream about is way over the top for them.

"Damn"
The left is probably thinking,
"If only she was a Democrat."

If she were, they would have replaced Hilary with her.

He was the host of “Death Valley Days” brought to you by 20 Mule Team Borax.

It was a weekly western.

That was then, this is now. I don't think the time gap is an issue...

The woman who almost singlehandedly stopped Obama in his tracks, and then went on to re-shape congress with her little Facebook page, now shows herself to be a rather nice, charmingly normal person that other nice normal people can identify with. She has a nice family, not a perfect one, but they clearly enjoy one another.

I might be biased but even the fact that she showed her fear trying to climb reminded people that she’s human. I thought the whole thing was rather endearing.

I don’t know what God has for her down the road but I do know that she is all but unstoppable. At least by her enemies. Referring to her enemies, the fact that she clearly enjoys her life is a rebuke to them, I think. They want conservatives to be angry people; the fact that most of us are actually pretty happy doesn’t fit the “narrative”.

Watch them melt.

I agree 100%.

It will be as memorable to me as as it was the first time as a young boy I saw the wicked witch of the West get water thrown on her by Dorothy. I well remember how fearful I was that Dorothy was finished. Then Dorothy grabbed the bucket of mop water and she threw the water on the scarecrow to put out the flames and splashed the water on the witch.

You must understand, I was born in 56, so horror movies in the early 60's were scary to me. When I watched Frankenstein, or Alfred Hitchcock movies I had nightmares.

Yes, I think you do. Bedtime for Bonzo was filmed in 1951. It wasn't until 16 years later that Reagan ran for Governor of California, and 30 years before he became President. Acting was his career before he became a politician. Once he decided to get into public life, he leapt in with both feet and focused on it. Not quite the same as being a TV star less than 2 years before a possible run at President.

After seeing the ads, I didn't watch it. Other than seeing Palin in a pair of gym shorts, which is admittedly a poor reason to watch something despite the good legs, there was no purpose. I might have understood it if it would have been purely outdoors show focused on the Alaska wilderness.

But as soon as the family got involved, it crossed the line from being about Alaska's wilderness to being a reality TV show, especially with respect to filming inside their home. I've always wondered about what kinds of parents actually think it would be cool to have TV cameras invading their home to see them and their children doing routine tasks. I guess we know now.

I'm trying to imagine the Reagans doing something like this, and I just think my former C-in-C would have had too much dignity.
