Westboro protester's van tires slashed at soldier's funeral

McALESTER, Okla. — Members of a Kansas church that protests at military funerals may have found themselves in the wrong town over the weekend.

Shortly after finishing their protest at the funeral of Army Sgt. Jason James McCluskey of McAlester, a half-dozen protesters from Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., headed to their minivan Saturday, only to discover that its front and rear passenger-side tires had been slashed.

To make matters worse, as their minivan slowly hobbled away on two flat tires, with a McAlester police car following behind, the protesters were unable to find anyone in town who would repair their vehicle, according to police.

The minivan finally pulled over several blocks away in a shopping center parking lot, where AAA was called. A flatbed service truck arrived and loaded up the minivan. Assistant Police Chief Darrell Miller said the minivan was taken to a Walmart for repairs.

There really does need to be a cost for their actions. While it should never be physical harm, the cost shoud increase to a point where it is no longer worth it to them.

This is a case where good intentions will end up having bad consequences.

If we “stretch” the law, because this group is doing something bad, then I gurantee the next day those “stretched” laws will be used against abortion protestors and tea partiers.

This group is a cult with just a handful of members—nothing more.

My first thought, if the van was left unattended and identified, why wasn’t it burned?

The town DOES want them out of town asap. A burnt van would leave them in town all day.

There were rumors of these goomers coming to our township for a Marine’s funeral. I warned my wife that she might have to bail me out. I made counter signs. I left my I.D at home. Just in case one of the arresting officers “turned his back for just a second”...

Slash their tires every time and these creeps will give up. Lay a hand on them and they will sue you to oblivion which is their real racket. If you are caught slashing their tires prosecution will be minimal because everybody hates these rats.

Those who damaged the property of others were wrong. There is no exception in the law for “those who deserve it”, as these protesters clearly deserved it. The only point I am making is law abiding citizens should be.
