Freudian slips may haunt Obama By: Keith Koffler November 15, 2010 04:36 AM EST

President Barack Obama, fresh from his drubbing in the 2010 midterms, is trying to revive his fortunes by pursuing a path toward the middle.

But Obama’s effort to overhaul his image is encumbered by conflicting impressions of who he is that have been engraved in voters’ minds by his own words.

During unguarded and even some staged — but inadvertently revealing — moments, Obama has allowed unintended glimpses into his thinking. At various times, his offhand comments have led critics, and many voters, to view him as an ardent leftist or an elitist or — most recently — a partisan Democrat.

These Freudian slips, uncovering the man beneath the spin and the speeches, are embedded in Americans’ subconscious, if you will, because they seem to come directly from the president’s inner self. Obama can change his policies, but he cannot easily erase these perceptions. And because of his cool opaqueness — noted even by his own staff — and his relatively brief track record on the national stage, voters have little else to go on.

Obama’s meteoric rise and young presidency have been marked by asides that appear to offer insights into his psyche.

His surprising self-revelations began during the presidential campaign. They were harmful but did not create major problems.

First, there was his condescension toward blue-collar Midwestern voters. At a San Francisco fundraiser, he said, “They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

You are correct, except I would put the "my muslim faith" statement in with the rest of them.

I ask you, would a practicing Christian utter such a statement? What would be going through your mind to say such a thing? Ask yourself, if you are a non-muslim, under what circumstances you would say such a thing. How does that come out of one's mouth?

I should have been clearer.

I believe the "my Muslim faith" thing was a slip, but not a genuine Freudian slip (i.e. repressed).

As you imply, he is a Muslim through and through...and knows it well!

I marvel at how this man and his handlers actually thought they could keep the truth about this inexperienced dolt a secret for 4 years. Luckily for America, every day brings new revelations about our Idiot in Chief.

Obama, as snake oil salesman, has pulled off the biggest con in American history. But unlike a clever snake oil salesman, he doesn't have the good sense to know he should high-tail it out of town before the chickens come home to roost.

And the sun is setting on Obama and the chickens are gathering over by the coop as we speak.

From the Narcissist in Chief: "What about compliments?" at the Korean Presser.

Watch for not only more slips and insight into Barry's inner child's tantrums, but also look for more highlighting of those slips as the Press Corpse (yes corpse) and the public go through Hopium Withdrawal.

It is interesting that when Reagan, Bush 42 and even Clinton spoke, they “revealed some essential truth” about themselves, but when Obama speaks in an unguarded moment, it is simply a “Freudian slip”.

"I marvel at how this man and his handlers actually thought they could keep the truth about this inexperienced dolt a secret for 4 years."

Well, they got him elected president, which is quite an accomplishment. A majority of people did vote for him.

I found great relief in the election results. I feared for the future of America. I think more people are engaged now, I hope they remain so.

Most recently, I found his comment on the GOP “ sitting in the back of the bus” to be HIGHLY OFFENSIVE. We need to kick Obama OFF the bus and put this animal in a cage at a freak show.

Elitist?

Aug 12, 2008 ... “Anybody gone into Whole Foods lately and see what they charge for arugula?” Obama asked an Iowa crowd in 2007.

I will always remember being called in downtown Wilmington DE by an obamination campaign con-artist.

I listened to the jerk start his pitch, then cut him off. I told him - and I quote the exact words I said in October 2008: "HE IS A G*******D COMMUNIST ! ! !"

It was always obvious. And that was the end of THAT call...

Obama is a Marxist through and through. He hates America and he hates a successful business.

I don't know how to do it, but we must find a way to counteract the belief that rich people and businesses are inherently evil.

While there are corrupt business leaders, there are many more who have worked their asses off to build successful businesses and don't deserve to be slandered or singled out for excessive taxation just because they're 'rich'.

Oh, and by the way, I am not wealthy. I'm a middle-class working man who too often lives paycheck to paycheck. I'm just sick and tired of class warfare and what amounts to legalized robbery just because someone makes more than you do.

Lastly, a question for you libs lurking out there: how many poor people have created jobs and added people to a payroll? Think about that the next time you dream about 'soaking' the rich.

Hand-wringing white morons couldn’t wait to vote for a black guy to ease their guilt about other white people owning slaves 160 years ago. This manufactured guilt completely erased their common sense, so they didn’t realize they were voting for a black, America-hating racist. Nice job, morons.

What is all this "unintended" and "Freudian" stuff. When somebody makes this statement about Obama then they are admitting they are politically BLIND or WERE politically blinded by the marketing around this man. He IS WHAT HE IS.

He's a radical from the 60's trained socialist. He was reared by communists and taught that the USA is a thorn in the side of the otherwise utopic world. He went to Muslim schools in Indonesia and learned the Koran, he comes from a totally screwed up family whose family tree looks like something after Katrina. He is damaged goods from how he was trained. He is an avatar of the Manchurian Candidate. His past is basically erased by unseen forces.

And now POLITICO tells us these things "slip out" ... What UTTER BS! The people at POLITICO are finally opening their previously CLOSED eyes and minds a little and are seeing the OMG truth for the first time. That these people are "shocked" is "shocking!"

Right on.

As far as I’m concerned, there’s only “right” and -wrong-, now.

I know which side I’m standing on.

I wish the GOP would “man up” as a whole and adopt a “No More Mr Nice Guy” policy.

Yeah.
I wish.

‘to calm their guilt”

Am I the only person in the US who has no “white guilt”?

I’ve never owned a slave or opressed a minority.

Why should *I* feel “guilty”?

[and I sure hope your coworkers don’t hold positions of great authority...they’re disconnected from reality and not overly bright, either]....:)

It happens to presidents. When Ronald Reagan joked on an open microphone that he had outlawed Russia and “we begin bombing in five minutes,” or George H.W. Bush read aloud his cue card notes, exclaiming, “Message: I care,” or Bill Clinton said, “That depends on what your definition of ‘is’ is,” their remarks seemed to reveal some essential truth about each man that framed the way the country understood him.

Comparing these slips with Obama's is almost foolish. What this reveals about Reagan is a sense of humor... About Bush I: poor preparation for a speech. About Clinton: well, this does reflect on Clinton's inner soul.

But Obama has shown himself to be arrogant, self-delusional, incompetent, elitist to an extreme I can't remember in my lifetime. This is not the makings of a 2 term president.

This dude thinks Obama's attacks on Republicans and saying are incompetants who should 'sit in the back' are SLIPS??

The attacks on Republicans were completely deliberate and were repeated ad nauseum. Nothing 'slipped.'

The slobbering media are trying so hard to rehabilitate their fallen god, are they not?

What a pathetic bunch.
