U.S. Sen. Scott Brown — a sometime Tea Party darling who’s been tagged as a potential 2012 target after the Bay State’s Democratic landslide in last week’s elections — yesterday downplayed the importance of the controversial conservative movement and its new foothold in Washington.
“I’m not sure who they are,” said Brown when asked about the election of senators with reported Tea Party ties. Brown said he’s known U.S. Sens.-elect Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Pat Toomey (R-Penn.) before the election and, “They don’t come and say, ‘Hey, I’m a Tea Party member.’ They come and say, ‘Hey, I’m a U.S. senator representing my state.’ ”
Brown dismissed the Tea Party’s influence on the U.S. Senate despite national claims that self-described Tea Party candidates such as U.S. Sen.-elect Rand Paul (R-Ky.) represented wins for the growing grass-roots movement.

Christen Varley, president of the Greater Boston Tea Party...said Brown even called to wish her a happy birthday nearly a month ago despite claims that he’s keeping his distance from the Tea Party.
Beware the scumbag liberal newsrooms trying to turn Republicans against each other so they can shoehorn their communist scumbags into seats like Brown’s. If Brown is an 80%-er or better in the seat formerly held by Ted Kennedy (D-Hell) I’m happy as a clam.
Anyway, nowhere in this column did I see Brown dissing the tea party movement.

This has been proved over and over and over again. It is a basic truism. Yet politicians continue to cower from the Democrat "mainstream" newsrooms as if those institutions aren't dying, as if those institutions still call all the shots.
It is ironic that those scumbag newsrooms still have whatever power they have left precisely BECAUSE some Republicans continue to run scared from them. But that phenomenom, too, is dying as Republicans wake up to the power of the 'new' media of talk radio and the internet.
Hey, McFly, Scott Brown is not claiming that he is keeping his distance from the Tea Party. The reporter is making that statement.
The bottom line is that he knows Tea Party leaders. He acknowledges that there is a place for them at the table. And he is also acknowledging that they are not the only ones at the table.
The only thing I am impressed about is that we have someone in Ted Kennedy’s seat who will vote with us 70 percent of the time, instead of ZERO percent of the time.

Glad to hear that. Brown was the darling of many FReepers back in January. All I can say is, I told you so.
Anyone who still thinks Brown is anything but a Rockefeller Republican, AKA. a liberal Republican, is either hallucinating or in a serious state of denial.
He never ran as a conservative or tea party candidate so, considering the state he represents, it isn't surprising that he's not conservative.
People like me who said the guy is not a conservative were bashed. Funny, but I don't see many FReepers talking about the “Scott Brown Republican” as presidential material these days.
I don’t believe I ever read here where anyone thought he was a conservative.
