Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann dropped out of the race for House Republican Conference chair on Wednesday night, ensuring that the GOPs leadership elections will go on without any serious competition.
In a statement sent to a handful of reporters Wednesday evening, the tea party favorite said that Texas Rep. Jeb Hensarling has her enthusiastic support for his candidacy for the top messaging post in the GOP.

I think she did the right thing.
My guess is that she’s flexed her muscles, proved that she’s a force to be reckoned with, and will let Hensarling (who also is a perfectly good conservative) get the nod. Michele can now concentrate on legislation, and may be thinking about perhaps running for the Senate in 2012 against Klobuchar (although she may prefer to wait until 2014 for the lower-hanging fruit, Al Franken).
Smaller Constitutional government.
To take over an organization, your people have to replace their people.
If ever there was a conservative LEADER, it is Michele Bachmann. She is fearless.
Good points. Agree.
My opinion: Why in the he!! is there not one person standing out and acting like a leader after the elections last week?
God help this country. If we are to survive, we need you to intervene on our behalf.
Hensarling is excellent. It is Boehner and Cantor that I’d like to see dumped.
Very disappointing. But, the bright side is that now she’ll have more time to devote to her Tea Party Coalition.
It sounds like the Republicans don’t want a messy public fight and she’s a fighter. She was probably promised something big.
But I guess it shouldn't surprise me that conservatives would rather eat their own than focus on the real issues. And no, which conservative gets to fill the Republican Conference Chair is not a real issue. It's one made up by the MSM and some willing conservative blogs that want to see infighting between the GOP and the grass roots/tea party.
You're sure right about that!
She better not shut up. We need her to speak out.
Disappointing news. Hensarling is going to be fine but a visible Tea Party face needs to be in the leadership. Scrutiny from the drive-by media will happen regardless of who gets the Conference position, and the question now is how they’ll handle the inevitable questions about country club leadership. Which they will now deserve.
Jeb has demonstrated his commitment to limited government, reduced spending and lower taxes and he will be a strong voice for the Tea Partys call for these values, according to Bachmanns statement, sent by spokesman Sergio Gor.
Bachmann was facing what appeared to be flagging support within the GOP caucus in her bid for the leadership position, even though she had touted support from the tea party movement.
Hensarling announced support from presumptive majority leader Eric Cantor (Va.), along with Paul Ryan (Wisc.), Ron Paul (Texas), Marsha Blackburn (Tenn.), Paul Broun (Ga.) and Mike Pence (Ind.). Bachmann had announced support from Minnesota Reps. John Kline and Erik Paulsen, incoming Rep. Chip Cravaack, and Reps. Steve King (Iowa) and Louie Gohmert (Texas).
Hensarling sent out a gracious statement praising Bachmann's role as a grassroots leader in the tea party movement.
"Michele Bachmann is a committed movement conservative whose effective voice played an important role in America's decision to trust House Republicans once again," Hensarling said. "She is a dear friend, and I am humbled to earn her support. I look forward to her energetic leadership in a united House Republican Conference during the 112th Congress."
Also the founder of the Tea Party Caucus, Bachmann said she will advance the Tea Party ideals through the group and said she hopes to add new freshman members.
The new Congress will have great opportunities to lead our country into the direction our founders intended, Bachmann said in her statement. I spoke with Mr. Boehner and other members of leadership and I am convinced they will wholeheartedly work towards the issues the American people are calling for such as fiscal responsibility, ending the bailouts and repealing Obamacare.
Maybe she has been promised something else.
He's been in DC for TWENTY YEARS-Strike Two
He REFUSES to join the Tea Party Caucus-Strike Three
He VOTED AGAINST extending the Bush tax cuts in 2005-Strike Four
The GOP "Leadership" still refuses to call the reds out by name, afraid of being accused by the commies in the press of "McCarthyism"
Disgusting and pathetic.
Without a frontal assault against the marxists in Congress (THE CONGRESSIONAL PROGRESSIVE CAUCUS) and their allies in the press, the WEAK, EFFETE, WASHINGTONIAN, BLUEBLOOD, COUNTRY CLUBBERS that are now running the HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES are going to be sliced and diced just like Newt and the boys were in 1994.
WE WON A BATTLE AGAINST OUR DOMESTIC ENEMY LAST TUESDAY, BUT STAND TO LOSE THE WAR.
Make no mistake about it.
THIS IS A TOTAL REPUDIATION OF THE TEA PARTY BY THE WASHINGTONIANS.
SCREW THE LAWYER HENSARLING.
THE NEXT FIGHT IS RNC CHAIR.
The Country Clubbers can run, but they cant hide.
You know what would work for me? A Speaker Bachmann.
No, I believe it means “the candidate I put all of my loyalty into because we have to have a cult of personality too lost, and anyone who is not Bachman is establishment because establishment is bad!”
