(CNSNews.com) - The CEO and Chairman of Microsoft Bill Gates said that capitalism’s “systemic" problems are not doing enough for research and “the needs of the poorest.”
“In general, the world under funds research because the person who takes the risk of doing the research doesn’t capture the full benefit of having done it and so you know, capitalism does amazing things but it has one systemic problem in terms of research that it won’t do enough,” Gates said at the mHealth summit in Washington on Tuesday.
“It has another systemic problem in that the needs of the poorest will not be prioritized the way they would if you put a more human values driven system in. Now, of course we have government that comes in and does it’s best to take, you know, the beauties of capitalism, which work for so many things and is so fantastic and whenever it can be used, it is better than government.”

Yup, he’s correct. The fact that he made billions by purchasing someone else’s work, using corrupt business practices to screw competitors out of good technology whilst fostering an operating system right out of the dark ages on is proves that there is most definitely something wrong with capitalism.
Let’s start correcting it by 1) taking all of his money, 2) disbanding Microsoft, and 3) using the money to track and imprison every corrupt senator and representative (i.e. around 90% of the critters extant.)
Umm, Bill Gates didn’t become a “rich fat cat bastard” until AFTER he made his millions. He wasn’t one of the wealthy to begin with, by any stretch.
The lobbying for H1B visas began AFTER he got wealthy, so he could become *wealthier.* That’s why he got what he wanted - because he WAS one of the wealthy. The wealthy get what they want when it comes to tax breaks, because they are wealthy.
We have to protect the, you see, because they are the ones who “invest and create businesses that create jobs.” Yeah, they DO create jobs - in other countries!
It’s been the same old song and dance since Reagan: “Lower taxes on the top brackets, so that they will hire more people!” We’ve been cutting taxes on the top brackets since 1980 - and the economy has gone wonderfully for them during that time. It has gotten provably worse for EVERYONE else.
Everybody wantsto be rich. But we don’t need zillionaires running around like aristocrats, crying poverty, and promising that they will create jobs if we just give them tax breaks. hell, it’s gotten so bad that *Rand Paul* himself said on Election Night that we should lower taxes on rich people because “we all work for rich people.”
Hey Rand, some of us work for ourselves - and we are NOT rich people. How about if these “rich people” you want to reward actually do something worth rewarding first? I say give all the zillionaires who actually start to give people JOBS with health insurance the tax breaks? Raise the taxes on all the ones who are just sitting on historic amounts of cash - *they’re* not helping America. Why should America help them?
Good point. Even his “charity” is a way to keep his own money in his own pocket and out of the pocket of the feds.

If you insist on following this line, bone up on basic non-Keynesian economics with serious study using resources by Milton Friedman. Might also want to bone up on the history of the world, the actual successes of laissez-faire capitalism, and the utter failure of command economies and government meddling in economic matters.
That would be a good stating point before going around talking about this stuff. Being rich and a computer software expert and philanthropist doesn't make you an expert in economics or the benefits of limited, decentralized government.
I don't take as harsh a view of what he's saying. I hear, him saying the old saw: "Capitalism is the worst system out there, except, of course, for all the other ones."
Yea Bill, how bout sharing all your wealth, I mean all of it. Isn’t that what socialism is suppose to do? Make everyone equal? Oh that’s right, everyone except the uber rich.
While I don't know that Richard Stallman has altered his Marxist views one iota, Linus Torvalds has always played politics close to the vest. Larry Wall, the creator of my beloved Perl programming language is a Christian which, by implication, implies Conservatism in most cases.
And given the hundreds of Linux distributions, there's a clear case of the free market at work as each tries to compete against the other.
Government creates poverty.
Free-market economies create wealth.
What is this phenomena?
Everyone who becomes FILTHY STINKING RICH on capitalism and the American way of life, suddenly turns to Communism and Socialism. It is like a 1 to 1 ratio.
There has to be something more to it.
If these guys want to give all their money away THEN JUST DO IT! And leave the rest of us ALONE.

My point is that he is welcome to his wealth, it doesn’t belong to the government. I’m just pointing out that Old Man Scroogates is a pennypincher who underpaid workers and lobbied government to permit him a wider labor pool so that he COULD underpay workers.
The profit saved was not distributed to employees or shareholders. It went in his moneybin.

I think you have to read between the lines. Gates sees financial problems for Microsoft in the near future and wants the government at that point to step in and give the company money. After all, Microsoft is too big to fail, or so Gates thinks.
