*snip*
The Katrina chapter expresses Bush's clear frustration with then-Governor Kathleen Blanco, who refused to federalize the National Guard for the incident.
I did not need the federalization of the Guard because that would've taken police powers away from the National Guard. And goodness knows, we needed that, she said.
Bush said on Oprah, I said to the governor, give me the authority to send in federal troops. By law, the president cannot send federal troops to conduct law enforcement without a declaration of insurrection."
An insurrection declaration would've given the military police powers.
He didn't discuss that with me. He didn't discuss it in that frame ever. It was a one-way conversation with the president and his advisers, not including anyone from Louisiana, Blanco said.

There were plenty of rapes and murders in NOLA immediately post Katrina. It was Ray Nagin, during a press conference, who said 'drug crazed gangs' were roaming the streets. Also, there is documentation of police officers looting stores.
NOLA was a $hit hole before the storm, murders, drugs, rapes were a daily occurrence.
Ask the good folks in Texas how they feel about the evacuees.
I am suprised she didn’t throw Nagin under the bus.
With all due respect, I always read before the rare occurrence of posting.
The undeniable fact is, GWB did an Upright and well documented job in trying to get Blanco to get New Orleans evacuated, but was met with a wall of political bulls*it by Blanco. Ray Nagen admitted as much on live TV if you remember.
Katrina was not a GWB failure, it was a matter of posse commitatus, but the idiot has yet to clearly lay this case out so people understand this very important matter of fact.
He just pokes around the edges of every issue and refuses to defend himself, and by default he contributes to the lefts outrageous claims of what a looser he, and by default republicans are.
I actually saw him him interviewed today and and as much as the interviewer desperately tried to get him to defend himself, he repeatedly said “must not mud-sling and diminish the office”
Well Really???
Even when there are BOLD FACE LIES that ultimately diminish himself but the larger conservitive cause?
Here’s a fun fact: GWB never actually said Sadam had WMDs, that started when Sadam actually used WMDs under Bush #1, then Clinton, and the entire world intelligence community said he had WMDs.
Let me remind you of this:
On January 28, 2003 in his State of the Union Address, GW said:
The UN and every intelligence western agency had concluded that Sadam has more than 3800 liters of botulinum toxin, 500 tons of sarin, mustard and XV nerve agent, thousands of munitions to deliver, and to the world community this was a no-brainer.
Dont trust ME - Refer to :”We Will Prevail” by George W. Bush; The Continuum Intl. Pub. Group ; 2003 - Page 218
And yet where is his adamant defense of himself?
Answer: None! He said today, Well shucks, who knew he had no WMD’s?
As much as I desperately want to love the guy lets face it...
The guy is a looser and an unyielding disappointment.
PS - Please consider moderating you tone, we are gentlemen and ladies here.
Allrighty ... earlier in your post you called President Bush "the idiot" ... Care to moderate YOUR tone?
Excuse me. "you tone"?
My take is that the only reason that Bush is on is because Obama is "secretly" scheduled to be on....and more than once. And don't be surprised if Michelle shows up a few times....
“Total lies. If youre not totally buzzed or drunk,
it would be wise to read the dang thread before
you kneejerk into zombieland and embarrass yourself.”
Too late.
He should have started the very first day by prosecuting those responsible for the damage done to government property by the exiting Clinton/Gore staff.
You first.
MeeMaw Blanco ping
President Bush has what is known as class.
You should check it out sometime.
I thought it was a very targeted hurricane produced by Dick Cheney's HHG, Halliburton Hurricane Generator, targeting only Blacks in Democrat stronghold of New Orleans.
Funny, that's what I heard him say during one of the Lauer interviews (except for the part about Saddam using them in the past).
W is doing very well in his interviews...I watched hem all, and I miss him very much as Commander in chief!
Thanks for the ping NN. This woman will not be missed. That’s for sure!!! :-) Sounds like she’s still in some fairyland!
“I think it was a bad idea to recommend that a governor claim insurrection when there is none.”
I totally agree it would have been a bad idea, but that’s not exactly what happened.
WWLTV excerpted President Bush’s statement. What he said was: By law, the president cannot send federal troops to conduct law enforcement without a declaration of insurrection and/or a request from the governor. It is my understanding that a declaration of insurrection is a Presidential prerogative, but that a governor can ask for assistance without there being a declaration of insurrection.
Actually, Bush acknowledged that claiming insurrection would have been a bad idea, although for different reasons. He wrote in his book, “If I invoked the Insurrection Act against her wishes, the world would see a male Republican president usurping the authority of a female Democratic governor by declaring an insurrection in a largely African American city. That would arouse controversy anywhere.”
Welcome back to the “swamp”, Mr. President.
I think it was a bad idea to recommend that a governor claim insurrection when there is none. That would set a bad precedent for the future. I can see where this could be abused.
It helps when people cite the whole quote rather than shortening and leaving out rather important parts of the meaning. Here is a quote of the entire sentence from W, with probably the most important part of the quote left in:
Everybodys blaming everybody else so I said to the governor, Governor, give me the authority to send in federal troops, President Bush says. By law, the president cannot send federal troops to conduct law enforcement without a declaration of insurrection and/or a request from the governor. When you consider the quote in its entirety, it is pretty clear that Bush wasn't saying she should declare an insurrection but should avail herself of THE OTHER provision for sending in federal troops - which is a request from the governor.
Are you posting in
Haikus? If so, then correct
Your syllable count.
The lies about Katrina were some of the worst lies against him.......almost as bad as Iraq.
Glad the record is getting straightened out for those who don't understand how the system is supposed to work.
