Obama Acknowledges Decline of US Dominance (Times Of India) : (483 Comments in Reply)

MUMBAI: Implicitly acknowledging the decline of American dominance, Barack Obama on Sunday said the US was no longer in a position to "meet the rest of the world economically on our terms".

Speaking at a town hall meeting in Mumbai, he said, "I do think that one of the challenges that we are going face in the US, at a time when we are still recovering from the financial crisis is, how do we respond to some of the challenges of globalisation? The fact of the matter is that for most of my lifetime and I'll turn 50 next year - the US was such an enormously dominant economic power, we were such a large market, our industry, our technology, our manufacturing was so significant that we always met the rest of the world economically on our terms. And now because of the incredible rise of India and China and Brazil and other countries, the US remains the largest economy and the largest market, but there is real competition."

"This will keep America on its toes. America is going to have to compete. There is going to be a tug-of-war within the US between those who see globalisation as a threat and those who accept we live in a open integrated world, which has challenges and opportunities."

The US leader disagreed with those who saw globalisation as unmitigated evil. But while acknowledging that the Chindia factor had made the world flatter, he said protectionist impulses in US will get stronger if people don't see trade bringing in gains for them.

I think many Indians are AMAZED that a leader of a country could go abroad and talk like this about his own country, problems and all. This one said it the best, perhaps:

" Bharatya (Bangalore) 35 mins ago (07:11 AM)

"Never before an American President acknowledged, i.e. admitted decline or fall of U.S. dominance in the world. Did Obama say that or was it an Indian media story. If Obama did say so, was he in his senses with negatism or that he was to please the Indian host ? A positve Obama is on his way out of office if he did have a negative thought about U.S. dominance. Think about this - would Manmohan Singh every say loudly and roar that India has the largest beggar populance in the world or that India has the least toilets in the world per population count and that Indians defecate openly everywhere."

I think by the time this @$$wipe is done, only the most hardcore, mentally insane Leftist lap dogs will be able to speak of 0bama in glowing terms. Even the majority of those who voted for him won’t be able deny the stark truth staring them in the face. That 0bama is the worst, America-hating, Socialist president this country has ever seen.

Obama is such a POS that even the best expletives escape me. And as a former member of the USN, that is saying something.

And he is supposed to represent the United States of America?

Man, this sap couldnt sell _________ on a troop ship.

I guess this is but another time in Michelle's life that she is so proud of America. /sarc

Really, these people are the absolute pits and have to go. Just when you thought they could go no further down in the ditch, they take it down another notch and humiliate the USA in front of 1 billion people. Is it any wonder North Korea is readying for another nuclear test and this time may try to get a Taepodong 2 ICBM to reach all the way to Hawaii and either further eastward--with this kind of talk? Or that Russia and China are now making simultaneous territorial moves on Japan--which has been sorely betrayed by Patrice Lumumba Obongo?

I’m waiting for Nov. 11. What obscene remark will this national embarrassment make on Veterans Day.
especially in KOREA. Maybe apologize to the NK Commie Country for stopping them at the 38th parallel. (U.N line)

“I still can’t believe we let him do this to our country”

Yep - within one generation we went from Reagan to THIS.

Some say America did it to herself by turning her back on God (the Christian God).

The one thing we can all agree on, is that Obama is consistantly openly defecating around the planet on our behalf. He just doesn’t bow when doing it anymore.

Sounds like the average person of India sees Obama crystal clear.

He’s a moron.

Was this his “Mission Accomplished” speech? and how can he possibly continue to lead this great nation. This has to be grounds to remove him on health issues.

We have elected someone who doesn’t like this nation to lead it.

What do you expect?

and our enemies and allies are startled when he says it so freely.

If that’s presidential, I am just not presidential material.

Yes...those leftists share his mindset, that America is a bad place because it leads, succeeds and inspires. Until 1/20/2009 its leadership was unapologetic for those qualities.

When Obama says these things, I sense a glee in his voice. Kind of a subtle "Yeah, we got the man" undertone to his leftist friends. I am convinced his goal is to destroy the exceptional aspects of America, the qualities that have made it unique in world history.

And he's doing it because of his own childhood issues. We are living in what ten years ago would have been a captivating but highly improbable novel.

I think as a general rule, we take things for granted. Plus, the global market. There are people outside our borders who have much less than we do and are willing to work very hard to get what we have and for a lot less too.

And there are people who would be more than happy to level the playing field with the poorer countries. Some people in this country. And they do everything they can to make it happen... cap and trade, “coal energy costs will necessarily rise,” etc.

“WE” did no such thing. “THEY” did it and are having to live with their decision.
