~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: USS Abraham Lincoln, Washington

USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72), is the fifth Nimitz-class supercarrier in the United States Navy. She is the second Navy ship named after former president Abraham Lincoln. Her home port is Everett, Washington.

Lincoln's contract was awarded to Newport News Shipbuilding on 27 December 1982; her keel was laid 3 November 1984 at Newport News, Virginia. The ship was launched on 13 February 1988 and commissioned on 11 November 1989.

Abraham Lincoln boasts all the amenities found in any American city with a comparable population. These include a post office (with its own ZIP code), TV and radio stations, newspaper, fire department, library, hospital, general store, barbershops, and more. The ship has enough electrical generating power to supply electricity to 100,000 homes, food and supplies to operate for 90 days, and the capability of distilling more than 400,000 gallons of fresh water from the sea each day.

Keeping the ship ready at all times is critical. This requires repair shops to maintain machinery and aircraft, heavy duty tailor shops to repair parachutes and other survival gear, and electronic shops to keep communication, navigation, and avionics equipment up and running. Of course, there are a few things that are unusual for a city of 5,000 people. For example, Abraham Lincoln is a floating airport, capable of launching as many as four aircraft every minute.

The various functions of the flight deck crew are identified by the colors of the jersey they wear. For example, yellow is for officers and aircraft directors purple for fuel handlers green for catapult and arresting gear crews blue for chock and chain runners and red for crash/salvage teams and ordnance handlers. Four aircraft elevators, each the size of two average city lots, bring aircraft up to the flight deck from the hanger bays below. Aviation fuel is pumped from the tanks below and bombs, rockets, and missiles are brought up from the magazines.

Good evening, Sis and Gang.
*smooches*

I am very sad that I cannot attend the services of our young Marine on Thursday.
I cannot get the time off from work.
I am especially upset by this because the filth from The Westboro Baptist “Church” have made it clear they will be there to protest.

Maine has a very new and very strict law about this now, and I can only hope that they enforce it.

Typing through a blurry screen.....that’s the way it should be & I’m so glad he got the homecoming he deserved.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful homecoming.

I can’t imagine how wonderful it must have been for you to see your son & embrace him.

Hopefully Mikes new law is enforced.
Sounds as if the cretinous Phelps family intends to challenge the law.

Doing well, thank thee! I'm sorry you won't be able to make it to Lt. Zimmerman's service - I'm sure you'd give Phelps and his freaks a piece of your mind!

Aloha Little Devil; Steely eyed Downeaster, Guardian of the Wall.....and all our troops!

The Westboro miscreants ain't a church and it's about time that everyone recognizes that.

Hope the new law makes them stand in Canada....and let the Mounties take care of them.

No good !@#$%^%$#s!

That being said, I know the Maine PGR will take good care of Lt Zimmerman and his family.
