Key Republican: Palin cost us the Senate
The Hill ^ | Nov. 8, 2010 | Jordan Fabian

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) cost the GOP control of the Senate, a powerful House Republican said.

Rep. Spencer Bachus (Ala.) said that Tea Party-backed candidates whom Palin endorsed underperformed against their Democratic rivals, costing the GOP key pickup opportunities.

"The Senate would be Republican today except for states [in which Palin endorsed candidates] like Christine O’Donnell in Delaware," Bachus said at a local Chamber of Commerce event last week, the Shelby County Reporter wrote Sunday. "Sarah Palin cost us control of the Senate."

Bachus' is one of the most visible Republicans to criticize Palin for her political activity during this election season. Some Republicans have privately groused that Tea Party-backed candidates who were not electable prevented the GOP from taking control of the upper chamber.

"The Senate would be Republican today except for states [in which Palin endorsed candidates] like Christine O’Donnell in Delaware,"

BS!

If the RNC helped O'Donnell as much as they first tried to hurt her, she would have had a very good chance of winning. Palin had nothing to do with it.

Wasn't he one of the ones that has been saying all along that Republicans had no chance of taking the Senate.

For every seat she "lost" she won three.

Nobody was voting for the GOP. They were voting against Democrats or for the Tea Party.

He cites Maryland where the GOP establishment and even Karl Rove did everything they could to undermine the candidate??

Tell me how much Bachus did for O’Donnell??

BS.

Her picks won more than they lost and frankly even in those places where they lost they came ever closer than dreamed possible.

Palin inspires the base while the Republican party would love to see her muzzeled and removed so that the “good ole boys” that make the decisions at the driving range and paid their dues can get what they are entitled to. The Republic party for being anti-Union sure acts almost like one, Senority and all. It’s people like Bachus that brought us McCain, Dole................

I’d be willing to bet she gored an ox of his at some point and now he’s afraid she’ll get enough influence to let everyone know how many oxen he has wondering around that no one pays any attention to.

Right on target. Voters did NOT choose REPUBLICANS. They voted AGAINST Democrats provided they were given a clear choice. The RNC, and people like this “senator” withheld their efforts regarding the “tea party” candidates. They cost their party countless votes and they cost their party uncounted thousands of dollars. Those dollars were donated, but NOT to either of the traditional parties.

Palin had a mixed record, though more often successful than not. Her biggest prize was Nikki Haley in SC. Her most fatal mistake was COD, which was not only a loss but a downballot disaster in DE.

That said, Palin badly miscalculated in her home state — proving she cannot carry water there. That type of experience can be disqualifying. By contrast, Thune got Noem elected statewide in SD.
