Pelosi move is a sign that Democrats intend to fight the GOP, not cut deals
The Hill ^ | 11/5/10 | Mike Lillis

Speaker Nancy Pelosi's aim to remain the leader of House Democrats is an indication the party is ready to go to war with Republicans in the next Congress, not cut deals across the aisle.

The California Democrat is a radioactive figure in many districts across the country, where Republicans parlayed her unpopularity to pick up seats in Tuesday's landslide elections. But she's also a master at energizing the Democratic base, and her liberal resolve, some Democrats say, will draw much sharper distinctions between the two parties than that of more conservative members who might otherwise assume the leadership spot.

"The lesson [of the elections] is not to back down from a fight," Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) said in a statement. "The lesson learned is we need to fight harder for real, fundamental change for the middle-class. And no one fights harder than Nancy Pelosi."

Put another way: "She's in a better position to throw the bombs back at Republicans," a former House Democratic aide said tersely. "I mean, who's the better person to make John Boehner look crazy? It's Pelosi."

Before Friday's surprise announcement that Pelosi will run for minority leader, Rep. Steny Hoyer, the current No. 2, was widely seen as heir apparent to head the party. The Maryland Democrat is known, in the words of one Democratic strategist, as "a dealmaker, a tactician" — someone who "makes the trains run on time."

Let er win ! Pelosi still in charge of the Dems, just polarizes them and puts national focus on her and Obamba’s agenda. The public needs to see the differences of the parties and hopefully in the next two years the repubs in the states they control will show the way for America to choose in 2012. Calif and NY should show a major contrast and it needs to be pointed out. Pelosi, Boxer, and Moonbeam in California should have this state functioning on a 3rd world country level before long.

This administration have shown their hand.

In 2012, the Democrats may not run on the accomplishments of the current administration, but on the memory of "Clinton's economy" and the "peace and prosperity" we had during the Clinton years. We need to be ready with answers if they do.

Barky’s content-free interview on 60 Minutes this evening tends to bolster the conclusion that the ‘Rats are planning to continue with their out of touch Socialist agenda without taking the wishes of their electorate into account. It’s looking more and more like these people are incorrigible, and, to borrow from 0bama’s favorite metaphor, we need to shift the presidency from Disaster to Removal.

“Clinton lucked out because of Reagan. IMO”

It didn’t hurt that the productivity gains realized by the Information Technology explosion occurred during his presidency and under the watchfull eyes of a Republican Congress......

As for Reagan, imagine what the US would have been like if he had the advantage of a conservative congress and those same productivity numbers........

Clinton is not unlike our current president (sic) in that he takes credit for the accomplisahments of others.......during the 2004 Democrat Convention, his speech to the delegates told them that his administration sought to “renew America”.......hhhhmmmm..... I always thought that term was the title of Newts Book that he wrote in 1996.....”To Renew America.” which outlined what his goals were upon taking the House Speakership, and how he accomplished them........
