The GOP's Sarah Palin problem (Guns a-blazin' at Tea Party and Palin already....)
The Washington Post ^ | 11-6-10 | Michael Gerson

Posted on 11/06/2010 6:10:15 AM PDT by TitansAFC

At their new political high-water mark, Republicans have plenty of reasons to celebrate - and at least one large cause for worry.

On Election Day, voters shattered the Obama agenda of expanded public benefits and increased income tax progressivity, leaving the president to reassemble his goals with glue and tape. During this midterm cycle, Republicans became reacquainted with estranged friends: independents, seniors, college-educated voters, working-class voters, rural voters and suburban voters. The Republican Party will benefit from the infusion of diverse, attractive new leaders, including some, such as Florida Sen.-elect Marco Rubio, with Tea Party pedigrees...

The T-P Caucus HAS NOT reached its high-water mark YET...
Because its growing, growing, GROWING still..
In almost every place daily, weekly, monthly..

This is exactly correct. People are looking at this as if it is static but it is very dynamic. The TP movement is roaring at this point and no one can predict how big it will be by ‘12 or ‘14. BOTH establishment parties might end up steamrolled. Right now, any politician on the Hill or most state legislatures who takes a position counter to the TP runs the very real risk of extinction next election.

Right now, the Tea Party movement is essentially running the nation.

We can purge again in the 2012 primaries if needed. I suspect it will be needed.

Here we go again, posting their nonsense that tells US what WE think. What a hack.

Sigh...

Enjoy her Gerson, you made your own ‘monster’. Had you and your buddies not slandered her out of the WH, she wouldn’t be slapping your masters around.
We like her better this way, more freedom to say and do whatever she wants as citizen.

Note: The others you slapped around this midterm, they’ll be doing the same. Thanks for your help... again.

Try harder Michael, know your subject to start; you’re talking out of your backside (think ventriloquist dummy).

I would want to die... going to journo school, only to write what someone else dictates. So Soviet.

Obviously, he knows nothing of the people.

I remember when journos pounded pavement to get the facts and held the government accountable.

The days of lie rags slandering and manipulating, lying and using ‘unnamed’ sources are over.

There has been a number of radio shows who called the people directly, because they know the journos lie.

Don’t even post their dribble, it’s a waste of time.

We know who’s on the inside 2012 cut list and who we want to run already, we don’t need your help and you still have no clue (trust me, you don’t).

The days of Pravda picking our candidates and stirring division is over.

BTW, we will have MANY protests at media offices.

OT: Those who still don’t get they work for us... they will shortly. I know i’ll make more trips to DC than when the dems held the whole hill, as I did before the 2006 midterms on many issues. Unlike others, we go by deeds, not words.
Maybe the press will figure out this is what separates us from those who want power/to feel/look good and want to rule others lives.

We can not afford to put out another Bob Dole or John McCain in 2012

Amen to that, brother!

That said, running her for president will guarantee 4 more years of Obama. She cannot win a national election because the has been successfully marginalized by the media. Independents just aren’t going to come out and vote for her.

You don't know that, that's hypothetical....just like you don't know if somebody else is out there that can rally independents!!!....If I want to play your game then Pawlenty, Mitt, Thune, Barbour or Newt can't rally at least most conservatives in 2012...they don't excite people nor can they rally the mother of all GOTV to beat Obama

Ummmmm, right, because California has had such success with the likes of Meg Whitman.

We're done with this sort of defeatist thinking. Use CA as an example of bowing down to the libs trying to get their votes....it doesn't work!

I borrowed your line in a letter I just sent to the Author:

Dear Michael,
The GOP and supporting cast of media darlings is wasting their time trying to paint Sarah Palin and the Tea Party as the problem. We are not the one’s who got this country in the mess it’s in! The Democrats and liberal establishment GOP are the problem and “we the people” have finally figured that out! Christine O’Donnell, for example, was the most serious “conservative” candidate in the game and might have pulled it off were it not for the establishment GOP and supporting cast of media doing all in their power to tear her down and put her on defense about things that don’t matter! Some of us actually listened to her message and it was the right message for this country! Did you notice that she raised over $3 Million in a few days from contributions from all over the country? That should have been an important message to the GOP – WE WANT CONSERVATIVE VALUES IN OUR LEADERSHIP! But the GOP did not get behind her and the socialist aka Castle was too bitter to put his support behind the candidate the people choose in the primaries! O’Donnell could have won had she been treated fairly by the media (fat chance) and the GOP. When O’Donnell debated Coons, she had to debate 3 people – Coons AND the two moderators (and if you watched that debate with an objective I you know I’m right)!

We the people want to get back to true conservative values! If we are going to elect socialists and Marxists, I’d rather they be Democrats than RINOs! Ok, so not all of Palin’s endorsements won – but here’s a news flash – a record number of her endorsements did win – but you want to focus only on the ones that did not win! If the GOP tries to fight the Palins of the world who have honest convictions based on solid conservative values, they are going to loose that fight. Trust me on this!

The Tea Party isn’t going away and we are no longer going to tolerate the liberalization of the GOP. And we are no longer going to be swayed by straw-man arguments like the one you present about Palin where you cherry-pick your facts to try to paint her (and us) as extremists (and as an aside, you mischaracterize Tancredo – you intentionally left out the word ILLEGAL when paining him as fanning “anti-immigrant” sentiment. I suspect that was intentional on your part when you know darned well he is against ILLEGAL immigration, not legal immigration). You know that but you choose to ignore it, as does most of the media when discussing “illegal” immigration opponents!

Keep trying to tear Palin down pal – to many of us she is Joan of Arc and she will prevail! You can take that to the bank! The real story here is not the title of your article, the real story is “The Tea Party and Sarah Palin’s GOP and left-wing Media Problem.”

Respectfully,
Signed

It’s hilarious. ‘Michael’ hasn’t frequented the left and indy sites. The women have mea culpas writ huge for over a year (and not because they think they hurt Hill by attacking Palin), they’ve done their research... finally.

They also saw how the press and leftist men treated the women candidates. They are pissed they were used by the press to knife themselves through their candidate. They see the pimping of the O then and now. They look back on what they ignored... the O doesn’t care much for women. (Hell, he doesn’t care about any American).

Michael and the enemy estate has done yet another favor...
They know what woman means and don’t care what party (especialy after the race charges and DNC rules bylaw fiasco). They also woke up to the fact that NOW and other ‘for women’ orgs, could give a damn about women (whether hanging from a rope in Iran, getting acid thrown in their face in Af/Pak, getting raped and stoned or honor killed by your father or husband in these United States, oh, and those clitorectomies and that marital rape case in NJ citing shariah).

They realize the groups are about culling and getting paid, not women. I would tell you what else... but you wouldn’t believe me.

I see they haven’t written about the Czars and healthcare bill’s ideas re: women indepth yet. I don’t expect it.

There will be blood when they find out.

Sidenote twofer: Yesterday, minding my biz, a neighbor who i’ve kidded with for decades re: politics, his union, etc.. shocked me. I went over to give his daughter’s mail from AARP (re: insurance), to him that ended up in my mailbox. I let him know about the insurance hike news at AARP (with the ‘and they pushed it’ barb), he actually listened. Then, he asked what’s wrong with ‘my’ president, I said who, he said Obama, I asked what was he talking about, he said (don’t laugh folks), he could have tried harder (re: stumping). I laughed and asked, that’s your only problem with him? He said he’s through with him, he had hoped he would straighten out for a year and he got worse. I asked straigten up on what? He said he didn’t have til’ Christmas, put his head down, shaking it, shuffled off.

I wanted to kiss the ground like John Paul II.

I’ve convinced many. I put them on the spot re: what they know, of course it’s nothing. I fill them in, they feel stupid (whether they admit it or not at the moment). They aways take in the info (unlike during the election), some come back later pissed because they were lied to... and spouted it to all they knew, never once looking her up for themselves.

Some laid off the TVs a bit after that, read some books, got on the internet. They’ll soon be butterflies.

Bonus: One of them dressed as the tea party at the NYC Village Halloween Parade this year. There were also Mr. T Party and Obama Zombies of course. Courage.

Christine O’Donnell, a novice compared to Palin, and certainly more tainted by media slander, won the independent vote in the liberal state of DE. What she failed to win all of was the Republican (RINO) vote.

In CA, we ran two moderate women who should have received the independent vote. Both lost. The idea that we have to move to the middle to win elections is wrong-headed. If people are looking for liberalism in their candidates, they are going to vote democrat.

Out of curiosity, via what medium? Internet, radio, TV, direct verbal?

Me too. I love Sarah. I'm just trying to be honest in saying that I feel like the attacks by the Left, fair or not, left their mark. I would be the first to wish that it wasn't so.

I think that’s absolutely correct. You will see a TP patriot or two (or more!) begin to challenge inside Dem primaries soon enough. In fact, I betcha (couldn’t help it) that you will see an incumbent Dem like a Webb or someone of that ilk try to to court the TP patriots in due course.

Because—

We’re running this country now, baby! You either clear it with us, or it don’t clear.

Rep Jason Chaffetz in Utah is thinking about going after Hatch’s Senate seat.

He is a good Conservative & I hope he does go after the Senate seat—but I want a clone of Jason to get his seat. I don’t want to give one to get the other.

Palin is young enough to work towards 2016 or even 2020, if we can get a Republican in for 2012.

She will be a person who gathers crowds easily & talks sense. She energizes the voters & gets the average American.

That gives her some time to gather more experience with other leaders of the world & to cement her strengths.

I think she has more power than any of us realize.
