Fort Hood commemorates the first anniversary of the deadly post shooting rampage Friday by paying tribute to the 13 who died and honoring more than 50 who went beyond the call of duty in the chaos and confusion that followed.
FORT HOOD (November 5, 2010)Few physical reminders remain of the shooting rampage a year ago at Fort Hoods Soldier Readiness Center that left 12 soldiers and a civilian dead and dozens of others injured, but separate ceremonies Friday on post will pay tribute to the victims and will honor 54 soldiers and civilians whose actions went beyond the call of duty during and after the worst attack in history on a U.S. military base.
To mark the anniversary of the rampage, more than 100 members of the families of the fallen are expected to attend an invitation-only awards ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday honoring those whose actions went above the call of duty on Nov. 5, 2009.
At 1 p.m. Friday, a ceremony thats open to the public will pay tribute to the 13 who died in the shooting.
It will be followed by a moment of silence and a post-wide retreat ceremony, after which all troops will be released from the day at 2 p.m.

Be honest. How many of you forgot that today is the 1 year anniversary?
Congressman John Carter, who represents the Fort Hood area in the U.S. House of Representatives....says radical Islamic terrorism has still not been acknowledged as the cause of the Fort Hood shootings which left 14 Americans dead, and the Department of Defense must not allow political correctness to continue to skew its policies on force protection.
For the last year, this jihadist terrorist sh*tbag has received the best health care money can buy (for free), three heart-healthy meals per day (for free), and made as comfortable as humanely possible. All at the expense of the tax-paying victim's families.
Words fail me.
Oh Goody! Another day to light candles, sing Kumbaya, wear some ribbons on our clothes and ask “why do they hate us?”
I’d much rather celebrate the day by hanging the body of the muzzie perp on the gibbet.
Oh I would have remembered but I was busy making a shout out
I heard on the news at 2pm about the anniversary. Looked for a thread here but saw none. Don't know why but I thought the massacre happened in Feb.
I have a photo of the row of boots on my wall. I remember every time I pass by it.
I'm sorry we have a nasty _resident. Quite appropriate that he would leave today.
Prayers of Peace and Justice for the families.
Yes. Instead of wallowing in sadness, I feel anger.
I am outraged the DOD cannot say the words, “jihadi terrorism,” and ACT ACCORDINGLY.
This day is equal to 9/11 in my view.
And oh, guess who just left the country.
I participated in the prayer and moment of silence. On Ft. Hood. At the flagpole in front of the HQ of the unit I support as a contractor. So no, I did not forget. Standing that long, some of it at attention, (or best I could do) with two newly replaced knees was not easy. I knee it would not be, but I went anyway because it was important to me that I do so.
I remember talking with you a year ago, when this happened...
Fort Hood Remembrance Ping
I did... I thank you for reminding us!! Well me!
God rest the souls of the fallen heroes...who died in BATTLE that day....
....and God give us restitution by making this terrorist pay for what he did!!
The perp will rot in Hell, and I'd volunteer in a minute to send him there.
RumInt, acquired at an off post eatery, is that the baby was killed by the same bullet the killed the mother. The baby did not die just due to the death of the mother. RUMINT also says that the bullet severed a main artery of the mother/soldier and that she bled out very quickly.
While he burns in Hell his body should be marinating in liquefied waste from a swine feeding operation.
This dirtbag should have been hanged by now.
Unbelieveable!
Horrific day. Horrific terrorism. Horrific NON-response of our pseudo CinC and the Pentagon.
We will NOT forget!
Thank you Dita. Prayers for all who died there and for all who went through this terror.
