With the Comrade ensconced in Kremlin West (aka White House) the Russkies say, What the hell and launch their bombers unfettered by any doubts.

Wow... I remember Russian Bears overflying my ship up in the Bering, 25 years ago. They were old airplanes then. I’m guessing they’re not building new ones.
Hell... wait a few more years and they’ll just start falling out of the sky on their own.

What the bombers are doing is they are probing the defenses(SIGINT). They are measuring time it takes for them to be intercepted.

All Tu-95s now in Russian service are the Tu-95MS variant, built in the 1980s and 1990s.

They buzzed us too.
We are still Flying B52’s and U2’s

Dutch F-16s patrolled NYC post 9/11. Thank drunken Ted Kennedy for having no air force base near NY. On 911, they had to scramble jets from Mass.

Everytime I see one of these stories I am reminded of the fact that these planes can’t possibly pose a serious threat.
I’d be surprised if 50% of their ICBMs are even ready to go if they had to.
The important thing here is the symbolism I guess. Russia now controls the main fuel lines to western Europe so this is just their way of showing off without breaking the bank (ie sending a carrier strike group on tour)

We are still Flying B52s and U2s Yah, but we don't pretend that our B52's are a credible threat to the mainland of Russia anymore. They're just not.
