Banning Happy Meals: Good idea for Phila. area?

It's all about the children.
Gotta protect them ... from Happy Meals.
At least in San Francisco.
The Board of Supervisors there is basically telling fast food restaurants, no fair using toys to sell cheeseburgers and fries to girls and boys.
Hello Kitty makes kids fat? Megamind controls their minds?
A first-of-its-kind ordinance plans to ban, starting at the end of 2011, free playthings being included with meals loaded with calories, sugar and fat.
"We're part of a movement that is moving forward an agenda of food justice," Supervisor Eric Mar told the Los Angeles Times. ". . . The epidemic of childhood obesity in this country is making our kids sick, particularly kids from low-income neighborhoods, at an alarming rate."
Some might see overreaching by the Left Coast Contingent of the Nanny State's Fun Police.
Has "justice" come to mean "just this" - as in "eat just this"? Are appetites being a salted?
Actually, sodium levels weren't addressed.
What's worse for the kiddos - eating a hamburger or wearing Hussein garb?
Why not just put a $10 tax on them.
Then they can fund child care and make people stop eating them at the same time.....just use the cigarette example.
Seriously McDonalds should do what the cigarette companies didn’t do when Florida filed suit....Close every McDonalds in San Francisco.
Let them have lost tax revenue and a big jump in their unemployment numbers.
Idiots. If you want a Happy Meal buy one, get apples instead of fries, milk or juice instead of soda if its an issue with you. It is none of their damn business what I eat or what my family eats.
How can any government tell anyone that they cannot give away a legal, perfectly safe, enjoyable toy?
On a related note, as far as I know, salt and sugar are legal ingrediants. It is not up to government to regulate something that is legal and perfectly safe.
“The epidemic of childhood obesity in this country is making our kids sick, particularly kids from low-income neighborhoods, at an alarming rate.”

Let’s be blunt.
The Communists are talking about BLACK kids.
Which means this “problem” of alleged “sickness” is not due to ANYTHING McDonalds is doing, but due to poor.... no.....absent, parenting.

Why do these leftists always think they know better than we do what we should eat!!! Food Justice!!! For Christ sake , is there anything more stupid!!! Like one poster said, McDonalds, and all the fast food joints should pull out of SF and let SF choke on the lost tax revenue.
Now that San Francisco has banned the Happy Meal, McDonald’s has responded by bringing out the Gay Meal......it features a hot dog.....
Banning Happy Meals in the name of ‘protecting’ children from possible obesity is considered ‘for the good of the public’ however, banning public gay sex in the Folsom Street Fair(http://zombietime.com/folsom_sf_2007_part_1/) for possible transmission of HIV would be considered mean spirited, homophobic and invasion of privacy by the government.
We live in Bizarro world...
Point number one, obviously this law is wrong, in so many ways.
Point number two, maybe if they ban Happy Meals in all the liberal strongholds like San Francisco and Philadelphia, children will start to learn in a tangible way that liberals are just uptight killjoys.
Conservative areas should give out double toys just to illustrate the point.
What’s healthier: a Happy Meal or a Philly cheese steak dripping with Cheese Whiz?
“an agenda of food justice”
Can these people even hear themselves talk?
Why not just ban happiness altogether?
Taking all the fun out of being a child. Turns them into miserable, snarky liberals. II remember when Shredded Wheat had game cards between the stacks of wheat, oatmeal had little dishes stashed inside, oxydol had dish towels; all devices to increase sales and make children happy to “discover” the surprises inside. It’s the American way, FGS.
Then 95% of Gummint would SHUT DOWN!
In frisco they want to make sure the kiddies get condoms and clean hypodermic needles withtheir happy meals.
In some states it is illegally for a gas station to give a cup of coffee for a refill. I remember a Walter Williams column on that.
Shhh!!! They might try to ban that too next!
If I was a McDonald’s franchisee I’d keep mine open, sell the damn meal, and give the parents the toy, rather than putting it in the box. That’s the way around the ordinance.
Wonder if they’ll target childrens’ dentists and doctors. They usually give out lollipops and toys.
