The overseer of Alaska elections says officials will begin counting write-in ballots in the Senate race Nov. 10 in Juneau.
Lt. Gov. Craig Campbell tells The Associated Press the intent is to give citizens and candidates a clearer sense of who the write-in vote getters are. Sen. Lisa Murkowski waged a write-in campaign in a bid to keep her job after losing the GOP primary to Joe Miller. She is among 160 qualified write-in candidates.

“If youre going to derail someone, do it with a good candidate.”
That is heresy. You must always pick the most conservative candidate. Their resume, experience, communications skills, etc. are unimportant.
Now you will be labeled a RINO for the rest of your time here.
The other two would have sent Harry in retirement.
Just like that moderate Fiorino took out Boxer?
40.95% + 34.34% + 23.64% + 1.07% = 100%
Mooocoowski's 40.95% - Miller's 34.34% = 6.61%
And to break the Moooocowski Miller tie, add 0.01% to 6.61% = 6.62% The 6.62% is what Mooo-ski has to lose of the total votes casted(the write-ins not belonging to her) in the Alaskan senate election.
And/or as you say, Mookooshki has to lose .0662/.4095 = 16% of the write-in ballots casted.
We don’t have any way of knowing that. Especially with his son and SEIU in charge of the voting machines. I don’t think anyone could’ve won. The fix was in - regardless of who the opponent was.
With all the falderal and notoriety related to write-ins in the news, I would think a large number of individuals could have written any number of crank names and comments, if only for the sheer pleasure of doing something completely different! That may have been especially true if clever Democrats trying to be cute thought their candidate didn't have a chance.
So true.
1st time I heard Angle speak, I cringed. Same for O’Donnell. Now that doesn’t mean I don’t like them, it just means I thought they were both weak candidates.
I hope that the Tea Party Express learns from this election. They could have a positive influence if they do a little better homework. I believe the problem may be that they didn’t have the time to plan as they needed. Hopefully they’ll be a little more organized next time because I honestly wouldn’t have felt excited about voting for Angle, Miller, or O’Donnell.
Folks can call me RINO all they want.
Harry Reid probably stole at least 10% more of the aggregate vote than Democrats (including Reid) normally steal in Nevada. Even if the Republican would have led more, then Reid would have stolen more. Even if the Republican somehow emerged from Election Night with more votes than Reid received, the Reid machine could discover or fabricate tens or hundreds of thousands more in time to declare victory. For Reid, chicanery is a way of life.
In Alaska, either Miller wins or some write-in candidate wins. If Lisa Murkowski (correctly spelled or it shouldn’t count) doesn’t get the votes, then the Republicans win. Even if she does, she’s still a “Republi-crat” albeit a badly corrupt one.
And every American has problems. No one is perfect. Character assassins and spin doctors spare no one, turning normal actions into veritable hideous scandals. Republicans, especially national partisan leaders, should conduct primary elections amicably and then rally around the nominee after the primary.
Just like that moderate Fiorino took out Boxer?
You should have followed NV a little closer. Otherwise, you wouldn’t compare the two.
>>> That is heresy. You must always pick the most conservative candidate. Their resume, experience, communications skills, etc. are unimportant. Now you will be labeled a RINO for the rest of your time here.
Tell me ‘bout it. I barely escaped a lynching last night making a similar point.
Murkowski holds the seat for the republicans. Good enough under the circumstances and considering the dem alternative.
IIRC, if someone writes in a name and it is misspelled, it become null and void for the intended nominee.
Republicans, especially national partisan leaders, should conduct primary elections amicably and then rally around the nominee after the primary.
I voted straight republican. There were a few that made me hold my nose but I still voted straight republican.
I rallied around and voted for the nominee after the primary and now I feel very comfortable saying Miller, Angle, and O’Donnell were weak candidates.
Sarah Palin should also consider her endorsements more carefully. She should have stayed neutral in Nevada. All 3 candidates were conservative, so let the people decide.
She is likely to get enough of the write-ins to win, unless the Alaskan Senate election drew extra voters that were not going to vote anyways so they could write in Mickey Mouse or scribble their names or names of others on the list because they are friends and family or whatever.
“I dont have as much of a problem with them doing it in DE but they blew it in NV. Sue Lowden or Danny Tarkanian would have beaten Reid soundly. Both were good candidates too neither should be called RINOs. Sharron Angle just wasnt a good choice. They blew it. I believe they did in AK too.
If youre going to derail someone, do it with a good candidate.”
The Tea Partiers ruined us in Colorado too. Their Republican governor’s candidate was so bad, he failed to pull in 10% of the vote, thereby relegating the Republican Party to minority status throughout the state of Colorado in all elections in the future! Furthermore, they nominated that idiot Buck over Jane Norton, who would easily have beaten Bennett.
“...I honestly wouldnt have felt excited about voting for Angle, Miller, or ODonnell.”
And if you felt that way, imagine how a “swing” voter feels.
Joe Miller is an excellent candidate.
The problem is that the RINOS permitted Murkowski to run after she lost the primary.
...I honestly wouldnt have felt excited about voting for Angle, Miller, or ODonnell.

So true.
Murkowski? You mean Charlie Crist in a skirt?
Sarah Palin should also consider her endorsements more carefully. She should have stayed neutral in Nevada. All 3 candidates were conservative, so let the people decide.
Exactly! I would have been very mad if I had to vote for Angle or O’Donnell. I wouldn’t have been excited about voting for Miller either.
