Dems find common ground: It's the White House's fault By: Ben Smith November 3, 2010 06:21 PM EDT

The bodies aren’t even cold yet in the House, but the Democratic Party has already opened up a bitter debate over who’s to blame.

The party’s bloodied moderates Wednesday released two years of pent-up anger at a party leadership they viewed as blind to their needs and deaf to the messages of voters who never asked for President Barack Obama’s ambitious first-term agenda.

Liberals pushed back hard: The problem, they say, was those undisciplined moderates, who won delays, unsightly compromises and a muddled message from a too-accommodating administration.

Yet a third group of Democratic politicians and operatives blamed not policy but a failed sales job for the party’s woes.

One thing all sides agree on: The White House blew it.

“It is clear that Democrats over-interpreted our mandate. Talk of a ‘political realignment’ and a ‘new progressive era’ proved wishful thinking,” the retiring Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh wrote in a New York Times op-ed posted online as the scope of last night’s losses became clear.

Bayh called the decision to focus on health care in a bad economy “overreach."

“We were too deferential to our most zealous supporters,” he wrote.

Bayh spoke for a wing of the party that had been, before the election, reluctant to criticize Obama’s management of the government, but which on Wednesday spoke loudly.

“Fundamentally, Democrats lost the middle,” the president of the centrist Democratic Leadership Council, Ed Gresser, said Wednesday.

The White House didn’t act alone.

” It’s a sign of Obama’s weakened position coming out of Tuesday that partisans on both ends of the party’s ideological spectrum
felt free to take potshots ..”

As nice as that is to see-the Democrats, like Barry ,
still don’t get it.
To paraphrase Carville-It’s the Stupid Obama.

What is hilarious is to watch all these so-called “moderate” Dems like Bayh act like they had nothing to do with what happened.

Fact of the matter is that Bayh was walking in lockstep with Obama, Pelosi, Reid, etc. on stimulus and Obamacare and never raised an objection.

Bayh and guys like Webb who sit around and point fingers as if they weren’t a part of the problem make me sick. They could have stood up, grown a pair, and told the adolescents in the party to sit down. Instead, they went along with it.

Screw them.

Yep. Historically, country club “Republicans,” go-along to get-along, do not rock the boat, do not preserve the Republic.

Going to be interesting to see if they grow any cojones.

*snip*

Or maybe you enjoy screwing with the White House?

Oh sure, there’s that. Yeah…guilty as charged. But it’s also much more than that.

I really believe the party needs to purge itself of this administration. And I think we will.

November is a start in that direction. New leadership will emerge. The White House will be marginalized – perhaps so much so that there will be a Democrat challenger to Obama in 2012.

Purge the party of this administration?

You really feel the Obama White House is that bad?

You remember that question – and then you can come back and ask me again later next year when this scandal finally comes to the surface.

The scandal in Chicago?

Chicago is the primary component – but it will likely start in D.C. – one thing will lead to the other. The Justice Department, and back to Chicago.

And what if this never happens? What if there is no scandal? What if Obama is simply re-elected in 2012 and serves a full and successful second term?

I suppose that is a possibility – but not a probable one. They are scrambling to make that happen, but after November, the White House loses its protection. I told you that – you understand that, right?

You are talking about Congress?

Yes-yes…without Congress, without the Congressional leadership to quash potential hearings, the White House is far more vulnerable. Remember Lewinski? If the Democrats had not lost Congress in 1994, there would have been no scandal – at least not to the extent that it became. But Democrats didn’t control Congress, and so the scandal was allowed – encouraged by those -expletive- Republicans to move ahead.

Same thing with Watergate. Democrats in Congress allowed the scandal to grow and move ahead. That’s how it works. And now we have a Democrat President, realizing he is looking at a Republican Congress, and he is facing a real -expletive- storm.

You used Watergate as an example. Do you really think Obama could be facing a Watergate type scandal? I mean, something that big?

Yes I do. I hope not. That is what is going on right now – I’m trying to explain that part of it to you but maybe I’m not doing a good enough job of it.

There are those in the party – the Democratic Party, who are right now actively preparing for that possible outcome and taking protective measures to protect the party. Let Obama go down for it – but save the party.

President Obama in turn – at least those around him who are capable enough still to function in that way, are trying to keep the party entangled in the mess, to motivate them to continue protecting the White House.

THAT is what is going on right now. And the stakes are very high – the repercussions very serious. That is why I keep telling you to fully appreciate the dangers here.

This stuff is no joke. That is why I came to you. If this goes bad, and it could just like that, I can pull the plug. And make no mistake – I will.

I get that – but I’m still having a hard time believing a scandal so big is not being reported by the media.

You’re wrong there. It is being reported – bits and pieces of it. The story will already be out there and growing before the mainstream finally runs with it. Don’t forget, most of them still want to protect the White House. That is simply fact.

I know this – I worked directly with them during the campaign. But it’s starting to change – and eventually it will break.

The barbarians haven’t broken down the gate yet – but after these midterms, they will. Look at the Democrats who are now openly challenging the president. Every day another one rebukes the president.

That is an incredibly dangerous thing to do politically – it can destroy a career. Ask yourself why they would be so willing to do that. Are they just stupid, too bold – or is it something else?

I don’t know… (shakes head)

The word is out there – President Obama is in real trouble. They may not have the specifics, but the story of a big scandal coming is circulating now within the party – both parties.

So why put your own political career on the line supporting a president who is facing such a fiasco?

Simple – they won’t. And so you are seeing the separation happening. The party itself is starting to separate itself from the president.

You ever watch those nature programs where the herd doesn’t hang out with the sick one? You got that poor sick antelope or whatever standing all by itself and when it tries to join back with the herd they run away from it? They’ll even attack it themselves if they have to. That’s what happens in politics.

If you are in real trouble, the others separate from you. That is what is happening to the president right now.

(Long pause)

And the lions are starting to gather…

So it begins ....

http://politics.blogs.foxnews.com/2010/11/03/feingold-loses-vows-next-battle-2012

Hundreds of supporters, some of them in tears, packed a conference room in Madison at the end of a long Election Day. They waited for hours to hear Feingold speak on stage, once it appeared defeat was inevitable. Rather than a man making a downtrodden concession speech, the senator sounded more like a coach rallying his team for the big game. First he quoted Bob Dylan, then Feingold raised his fist in the air and yelled “On to the next fight! On to the next battle in 2012,” while the crowd screamed “Russ, Russ, Russ” as he left the stage.

Simply more on the same erroneous theme - its wasn’t the program, wasn’t the message, it was just the sales job and the salesman.

That, the salesman, IS Obama’s only REAL job - the puppet on the puppet masters (Marxists) string. The arrogant little puppet who thinks he invented all that Marxist propaganda that swirls around in his brain.

That being the case, yes, Obama didn’t do his job. He failed all the Leftist congress critters and the thousands more Leftist congressional staffers who inserted all the legal language for the massive putsch of extended Federal power and control into every major piece of legislation. That was the real work and they “accomplished” that. All Obama had to do was mis-represent it well enough to the American people so they would be fooled into thinking it was something it is not. He failed. Why don’t THEY fire him themselves.

These people won’t quit, AND neither should we. We must clobber them, harder, longer, and over and over until the monster is dead. Use every single legal weapon available to shut them down. Until they feel so much legal pain that their handlers in Moscow say ouch.

They are doing it to us. This fight has only just begun to get interesting.

Oh, here's a scandal that would be bigger than Watergate. Obama and his Liewyers have to respond by today. Gee, wonder if they have met the SCOTUS deadline?

I happen to know Feingold personally. The guy is politically delusional. He genuinely believes the whole country — except for a few crazies - stands behind his extreme liberal ideology and he is the guy with the pure courage to do the right (liberal) thing.

He voted against many Obama things because they were not left of center enough! His whole maverick schtick was a ruse, yet nonetheless; in his own mind he really believes he's an independent guy. It's quite amazing.

I love it... these people’s forced harmony is falling apart and they can’t stand each other! They’re as phony as their policies are believable.

They have to lie to get elected and they’re discovering the State-controlled media, the MSM, was of no great help to them last night.

I am so enjoying this Democrat infighting!

Hopefully the hidden past of BO will start coming out. These dems that lost are probably burning mad at BO and Moosechelle. They stood by him and he could care less. He’s got another extravagant vacation coming up.

I understand that 16 of the 2008 Freshman House Congress Critters that rode the Obammy coattails into office were turned out last night after only one term.

That’s the kind of track record only someone like Bob Shrum can appreciate...

I think the MSM will come down with amnesia as to their role in putting Zero in office and go after him the way they went after Jimmy Carter.

The thing is who Barry is was always there to see. He was raised by a far left mother and grandparents. Educated at elite lefty universities. Mentored by Bill Ayers and Rev. Wright. ACORN agitator. He was never the guy he and the press said he was in 2008.
