The Olin Corp. announced Wednesday that it will suspend production of centerfire ammunition at its plant in East Alton and re-locate the manufacturing operation to Oxford, Miss.
The move comes less than 24 hours after members of the union representing over Olin 800 workers rejected concessions that would have allowed them to keep their jobs.
"Our focus always has been on ensuring that we continue producing high-quality products for our customers in an increasingly competitive market," president and CEO Joseph D. Rupp said in a prepared statement.
"While I am disappointed that employees represented by the International Association of Machinists chose to reject a proposal that would have allowed us to remain competitive in East Alton, we look forward to expanding our existing operations in Mississippi."

The W 4 bangers seem IMO to have a stickier steel base than other cheapo ammo.
Due to volume of shells, I reload, so it’s nothing but AA’s for me. I can run them through the press 10-11 times.
I would do some exploring on that side of the river, but I absolutely refuse to cross into the state where I instantly become a felon because of what I carry in my truck console.
Not one picture of Lena Olin yet on this thread.
That's about $30,000 per job per year.
The unions are for the most part are “white man hating” organizations here in TX. I go out of my way, everyday, to kick em in the teeth at least once.
Vote with my dollars again after yesterday’s real vote. SEIU sorts HAVE to be starved out now. 2012 vote has to fair. Must push the voter ID law etc... Hell I showed mine here in poohville yesterday to vote and I wasn’t insulted. My name, address etc was on the list, it matched my drivers license and I voted.
Scott AFB was name of base I was trying to remember....LOL !
Been retired too long.......:o)
That 147gr OSM is prime fodder for my MP5SDA3......:o) Almost out, last I checked. Like to keep a case or two on hand for fun days on the range.
Stay safe !
We will welcome you!!!
You have an MP5?
I knew you were my hero for a reason.;)
Actually, it is the other way around. It is an unfair labor practice for a business to say that you must agree to this new contract or we move the plant. If they did this, then a judge steps in and stops the move until you bargain in good faith.
Always seemed a no brainer to me...........
Yep. That giant sucking sound you hear are jobs moving to the south and central south.
That panty-waist is from Holly Springs. He just says Oxford because it’s bigger and that’s where Ole Miss is.
Ya’ll come on down,, more than welcome here in the Magnolia State!
Yep, 1986 I was lucky enough to find one cheap and in good condition. Had it reconditioned and try to make sure all I use in it is subsonic 147gr OSM. Expensive to feed yet ......some damn good fun.
On 9/11 when everyone was running around like nuts buying fuel at 6 dollars a gallon etc .... fighting at grocery stores. I kept it on the front seat of the truck for a few days till the paranoia bled off. Now it lives in the gunsafe most days.
I wonder what jobs will be offered to “former unionized” former Olin workers if they travel to Mississippi?
Saiga 12?
Good!!! Move them South and into red states. I like that.
GOOD !
Needs to be nation wide law......
This day and age of crackin and hackin I figure those that have such skills can juggle the numbers at the main server versus having to go to each polling place if they want.
Need to improve security on what should be a simple process.
Stay safe friend......
Isn’t that what I said? If it isn’t, it is what I meant. But it is a stupid law when it is the truth.
The work just fine in my Browning Superposed.
