Barack Obama, who became the first US president to personally celebrate Diwali in the historic East Room in 2009, wanted to "specifically" celebrate the festival of lights with Indians, the White House has said.
"He (Obama) specifically wanted to have an opportunity to celebrate Diwali and to do so with the Indian people, getting beyond simply his official business,"

At $200,000,000/da. of taxpayers'
borrowed money this is rather a bit much. Vastly more important, for all the fired House and Senate DemonRats who're suddenly looking for gainful employment, it must be like a routed general fleeing the horrors of the battle field for the joys of a voluptuous pleasure dome while the wounded troops are left alone to flee the victorious enemy, bind their wounds, and bury the dead. That obscene, deeply disrespectful, and insulting bug out can only lead many powerful DemonRats to loathe the Illegal more deeply and intensely than most of us do, if that's possible. They're also likely to act out that loathing by somebody dropping a dime on the Illegal, causing his records suddenly and miraculously to appear.
The flying monkeys are gathering around the Witch of the East, while she stirs her cauldron, cackles, rubs her cancled hands together, tunes up her broom, and prepares to obliterate the Illegal.

Imagine the ACLU’s reaction if he was spending $200,000,000 a day to visit the Vatican.

Since Americans have voted in a resounding repudiation of this pretender, he thinks he needs to seek his narcissistic supply from elsewhere in the World. He is after all (in his own thoroughly delusional mind) still President of the World.

I do believe information will come to light as obama’s popularity declines. I’m still waiting for just one newsperson to start asking questions. I’ve thought it might be Jake Tapper, but so far of course no. I’m wondering now what obama will do when it does happen.
This vacation is appalling, and I hope Americans take notice.

As it has been explained to me by Indians here in the US, Diwali isn't really a big thing back in India. For the Indian diaspora in the US, it is apparently a little more significant. And it seems to be a trendy thing amongst lilly white yuppies in the US to celebrate it to demonstrate how worldly they think they are. As one colleague put it, "I don't know why Americans always ask me about Diwali."
Anybody know? There could be a class issue involved as the Indians I've worked with here tend to be engineers and sons of industrialists.

I just remember that Obama was given a locket of the Hindu god Hanuman (the monkey god) before the 08 election.
Makes one wonder if Obama also thinks he is a Hindu god?
He is one sick little fokker.

In an epsisode of the new sitcom “Outsourced” the Indian assistant manager conned the American manager into thinking he could take the day off to celebrate the Hindu Holy Day of ‘Vindaloo’.

Cinco de Mayo is another holiday which is ignored in its place of origin, but considered a big deal in America. Liberals have a desperate need to show that they “get” the culture of brown people.

The first thing the GOP Leadership should do is to make sure that the public is well aware of the way the usurper in chief is so cavalierly frittering away the taxpayer's hard earned money!
Two hundred million dollars a day is outrageous for "emperor 0bama's" entourage!

No. Unlike Kwanzaa (that fabrication by communist committee) Diwali is a real festival with some significance, but as it has been explained to me, its stature & media coverage in the West is much higher than it is back home. In terms of religious or social importance, it’s a minor festival, but it is one that is easily digested by the west... or coopted by US media drones anxious to demonstrate how worldly they are.
To: libstripper
The celebration seems to be of an intensely personal arrogant nature. Cursory reading as I am not a Hindu. The hubris-based function fits this person very well.

That’s fine except that the taxpayers should not have to foot the bill. We don’t get to take lavish vacations and neither should the 0.

Deepavali is indeed a major Hindu (and related sects) holiday. It is a ‘festival of lights’ and a lunar new year. It is a big deal. No idea what some Indians might mean. Maybe they are Christians or Muslims or proud atheists?
