To: Maine Mariner

The last time the GOP won the House in Maine was indeed 1972 (although coming close in the past decade), and tied the Senate as recently as 2001-03 (when the Dems and GOP rotated positions as Senate President), and the last time they won it outright was 1994. But the GOP hasn’t apparently won the legislature AND the Governorship at the same time since 1962.

Yes, 1962 sound right.

The results were a complete surprise. I will have better data later today but I understand for the state house no incumbent Republican lost, 16 Democrat incumbents losts and 6 open seats were won by Republicans.

In one night Maine turned from a very blue state to purple or even light red.

In one night Maine turned from a very blue state to purple or even light red.
