Pennsylvania Voting Thread (please post your comments)
Personal Observation ^ | 2 November 2010 | Self

Posted on 11/02/2010 9:35:44 AM PDT by Vigilanteman

The Mrs. just spelled me off from poll watching duty one hour ago. Our precinct had logged in slightly less than 300 voters by 11 a.m., about normal for a mid-term election according to our local judges.

Absentee requests for the county were 6500 as of Monday versus 3000 for a normal election. One worrisome note: My daughter's did not arrive even though she mailed it two weeks ago. I'll be on closing duty tonight.>p>Official state results will be available at the link. Pls post your observations, including the part of Pennsylvania.

Weather here is chilly but clear. Poll traffic is steady but not overwhelming. We're in Westmoreland county, about one hour southeast of Pittsburgh.

Is anyone watching the absentee ballots? That’s the biggest source of fraud.

Lancaster County here, East Cocalico Township. I was #235 on the roster at about 11:45. We’re a very conservative area.

I'm in northernmost Westmoreland county. Parking lot at our rural precinct was full at 7am. I got in line at 6:55am and was number 17. I would say the early turnout was heavy, but by 9am when my wife voted, the place was slow.

I’m in western Westmoreland County. I voted at ~0830 and the number of voters present then seemed to be about the same as always.

I voted this morning in Lehigh Township, 15 miles north of Allentown. People were coming in and out at a nice steady stream. It is considerably less than 2008 but much more than 2006. I live in a rural, conservative district and I can tell you that this type of turn out is a good sign.

Chester County, 7th district. My local polling place was steady when I went in around 8. I was number 102. Spoke to my friend around 9, she was #204. Pretty good so far for a small town. Everything was orderly. The poor Dem. rep. handing out sample ballots looked a bit dejected. He wasn’t getting any takers that I saw.

And we had NO “observers” like we did in 2008.

Gorgeous sunny day. Let’s hope the air is cleared.

Heavy turnout in Doylestown, at least for the morning. SEEMS better in Republican districts, but we'll see.

The Absentee Ballots usually do not come into play unless there is a very close race. In most states if the winning margin of votes is more than the total number of absentee ballots the absentee ballots are not counted and end up in the trash. That is why I never vote absentee because you can't be sure your vote will be counted.

Wife and I voted via absentee ballot a few weeks ago (Berks County). Given the latest polls for Gov and Senator, hopefully it won’t be necessary...

PA-15 - western suburbs of Allentown - by 11 AM poll workers said they had had about 100 per hour since 7 AM. No waiting at all when I got there.

In 2008, the line stretched well out the door and the wait was about 15-20 mins. Definitely a lower turnout.

Geraghty tweet:

“One reader reports 18 percent turnout, as of 12:25, in inner-city Philadelphia precinct.”

Hi neighbor. I was surprised to see someone chiming in from Lehigh Township.

About to head up to the firehouse now. Didn’t know there were any other Freepers up here from the hood.

Any Idea if this is low or high for an inner-city precinct. I mean if they are going by the 120% turnout model then this would be low. Any idea anyone? Thanks.

My friend is moving between polls in SW Philly. He says turnout is light.

My burb had pretty decent turnout. Less than 2008, more than 2006. I always vote early in the day.

Carbon County. No waiting. I was surprised (and pleased) they were asking for IDs.

Thanks for the link. I wanted a Pennsylvania specific thread since we are supposed to be the key bellweather state this election.

If win projections come in early for Pat Toomey, it will indicate a hard night for the RATs.

I'm confident, but not cocky. Even the pastor who runs the church which serves as our voting location came by to shake hands and thank us all for our service.
