Giants win the Series! Giants win the Series!

Go ahead, say it. It's no longer mere fantasy or sheer folly to do so. A rare mix of veteran rejects and budding stars completed an unlikely ascent to the Major League summit Monday night, allowing all to repeat a five-word phrase never before heard:

World Series champion San Francisco Giants. The Giants made franchise history with a 3-1 triumph over the Rangers in Game 5 of the World Series, ignoring their underdog status to capture the 106th Fall Classic, four games to one.

An unlikely hero combined with a likely one to elevate San Francisco to new heights.

I feel you pain! It was worth it now. Hard to believe you can get frostbite in San Francisco.

and that's during the summer!

It should have been a straight intentional walk, especially knowing Renteria can hit pitches out of the strike zone.

Now we just need a better manager.

Washington is a good American League manager - make your lineup and watch them play, maybe pull the starter in the 8th. His problem was an inability to make the right pinch hitting calls in the late innings of game 1 and 2 and an over reliance on Vlad Guerrero - who embarrassed himself in right field in game 1 and essentially gave up in about the 3rd inning of game 4.

Here's hoping for a Cubs/Rangers series in 2011. Baseball fans will be winners either way.

Congratulations to the Giants.

I'm with you. I said during the last week of the regular season that I would not want to play the Giants in the playoffs — short series or long — because of a superb starting rotation backed by a good bullpen. It was befuddling that the idiot media thought Cliff Lee was an automatic two wins as though Tim Lincecum wasn't the two-time reigning NL Cy Young. Although offense tends to garner the majority of headlines, good pitching beats good hitting, as your Giants proved.

Since you're a Giants fan, I guess we have Dusty Baker in common, not that that's a good thing.

"Question: exactly how much are Lincecum/Wilson/Baumgardner/Cain going to cost by, say, this time next year?"

$18-$25mil each. Easy.

The only way the Giants will keep them together is if they want to do it ONE MORE TIME on the cheap.

The only team in baseball that can afford a $200mil+ payroll is NY...and everyone know it.

Hell, the Yankees would do well to by the lot of them.

It was one hell of a ride! I am so proud of my Rangers and they can say all they want about us but when it’s all said and done the whole country should be kissing our Texas feet for keeping the Yankees out of the World Series.

Maybe she will be able to put a halt to those dreams. If she can’t, simple math might be able to. By seeing how much he would lose to the taxman by going to NY vs staying in Texas, should slap some sense into him real quick. Also, the weather is nice year-round.(OK, June through to September is miserable, but we put our Christmas lights up wearing shorts and flip flops and go golfing the day after Christmas.)

Texas did good and by having owners with extensive baseball knowledge and DEEEEP pockets the Rangers are going to be set up to be competitive for years to come. Provided they can get rid of that ‘quit’ they seem to embrace at the most inopportune times.

Dang. You must really hate Aubrey Huff considering he didn't hit an Ethiopian's weight for the Tigers last year.

Lincecum 2-0

Lee 0-2

I guess that question is settled, eh?

Sorry to hear that. I still hate them and the Dodgers for leaving New York

I read a story once of a NY Giants fan who made his family take a 100 miles side trip off their route so he could spit on Horace Stoneham's grave for taking his beloved Giants to San Francisco. Not that I would do this but I completely understand.

Gotta admit this surprised me.

The Braves had them on the ropes, but their beat up club just couldn’t do it in the end.

I figured...oh well....doesn’t matter...NOBODY can beat the Phillies.

Congrats!

(And I feel go about Atlanta’s chances next year.....so may we meet again!)

One of the best things about the WS was George Bush throwing out the first pitch last night and what a TEXAS cheer of love they gave him, then he fired a strike to Nolan Ryan, awesome series but Bush nearly showed up the Giants. Now for Chaleefornya to vote OUT Boxer( BooooOOO) and Newsome( BoooOOOO) and more!

Bush fireball

Obama swishy throw

Difference is like Erkle vs John Wayne.
