Miller leads in Alaska

Joe Miller is favored heading into the final two days of the US Senate campaign in Alaska. 37% of voters say they'll pick him while 30% plan to vote for Scott McAdams and another 30% plan to write in Lisa Murkowski. Miller is winning despite having the worst personal favorability numbers of the three candidates. Only 36% have a positive opinion of him while 59% view him in a negative light. McAdams is by far the most popular with 50% rating him favorably to only 30% with an unfavorable one. Voters aren't very enamored with Murkowski either, giving her a 37/53 approval rating.

How can McAdams be so much more popular than Miller yet still be trailing the race? It's because 92% of the small group of voters that does like Miller is planning to vote for him. But only 56% of the voters with a positive opinion of McAdams are intending to cast their ballots for him, while 31% of them are going for Lisa Murkowski.

The high number of voters who like McAdams, dislike Miller, and are voting for Murkowski place the race in a whole different light than has been thought of the last few months. Murkowski's campaign, rather than propping herself up at the expense of Miller, may actually end up propping Miller up at the expense of McAdams. You never know how things would have unfolded in a two way race but Murkowski seems to be taking a lot more voters away from McAdams than she is from Miller.

You are right. He looks ‘cool’ but not professional, honest, and sincere.

Dont worry about the flames. there are superficial aspects to politics. like how we elected a leftist senator with no executive experience to be POTUS, but since he was black and had an interesting life story, we glossed over the ugly truth of how bad he would be.

GLAD TO SEE THIS POLL.

"I saw a segment on FOX News some weeks ago that in Alaska, male candidates with facial hair fare better than male candidates who are clean shaven."

What about female candidates with facial hair? Just kiddin'...

people don't trust a man with a beard.

This is Alaska we're talking about.

not as much as when Odonnell spanks that pet monkey Coons.

Dear God, make it so. I saw her tonight. She would bring honor to the office.

These studies were paid for by large corporations. They paid a lot of money for these studies in order to find how to appear professional and trustworthy to their potential clients. Sometimes you don’t get a second chance to make an impression.

give it up a'ready.

He's freaking NOT in NYC or LA or even Boston. He's in Alaska!

And he's military. It may well be, were a study done in Alaska - they might find that the locals trust a military man and a man who doesn't gt rid of his beard because of 'advise from experts.

One size does not fit all - especially in Alaska. And that seems to be the consensus of THIS 'panel' on this thread...a 'study' in itself.

I remember when alGoreBul was last running - and hired a woman - an 'expert' - to tell him how to dress and in what colors, etc etc - yeah, that worked.

think having facial hair in Alaska would be a plus more than in any other state (perhaps Idaho excepted).

In Maine, longabout Sept, the beards start stprouting - in anticipation of the cold days on November hunting and winter snowmobiling and ice fishing.

As I said before, Alaska ain't NYC or LA or Boston..."When in Rome..."

I wonder if those studies were done under cultural psychology or psychology in general. More and more psychologists take into account cultural elements in their analyses.

Crist’s beard will probably divorce him when he loses the election and is out of a job. Back to trolling restrooms and parks for him.

thanks for the link - MASTERFUL photography. I have ‘shortcutted’ to my desktop so I can just look at them again and again.

I was raised in the north woods of Maine. A good life for a kid.

I don't believe in reincarnation. I wouldn't want to do this trip more than once. but on the chance that it is part of the game, I'm putting in for your neck of the woods to grow up in. ;o)

Nate Silver at 538 (now under ny times) is an honest lefty, and never had this one close. He has had Miller ahead the whole time.
