Russ Feingold's last stand
Politico ^ | 10/31/2010 | Ben Smith

Posted on 10/31/2010 8:18:26 AM PDT by speciallybland

Russ Feingold has spent 18 years on the fringes of the Senate Democratic Caucus and one very hard year here in his home state, running the opposite of this year’s standard-issue Democratic campaign.

But Feingold appears on the brink of going down in a national tide that’s blind to distinction. Infuriatingly to the Wisconsin Democrat, he’s been painted not as a leftist but as, of all things, a Washington insider. He’s been forced to defend a claim to independence that he feels is self-evident – “A guy did his doctorate at Princeton on this,” he says indignantly – against an opponent who likes to ask, what kind of a maverick would vote for this year’s health care overhaul?

The irony is biting: While other Democrats ran away from health care, Feingold ran toward it and rallied a progressive base that adores him. But no matter, he’s still losing, down in every public poll and struggling in pretty much the same way embattled Democrats around the country are — as symbols of the status quo and of the unpopular health care legislation. And while Feingold was dragged to the table on health care — he was the last holdout on the public option — he gets some of his loudest applause when he brags that he’s the “only senator in the Senate” who will say that he’s “proud of my vote.”

Feingold calls public opposition to health care legislation the result of “an intentional effort to destroy the Obama presidency,” and he’s convinced it can’t last. The law is “going to look pretty damn good in two years,” Feingold told a sympathetic roundtable of a dozen women Friday morning.

“Some of us have to be the infantrymen on the front line, so that’s my fate,” he said.

Yep, that was the plan. Destroy the health insurance companies and then the government will step in and provide a single payer system.

All I can say is "what goes around, comes around". That jackass Fiengold was warned NOT to support socializing health care and he flipped the proverbial bird to the people.

He is going to get his comeuppance.

I love it. “He’s the only one who defended his vote on Obamacare.”

And he’s down 8-10 points in a Blue State.

Meanwhile folks like Bennet in Colorado (a more conservative state) are running away from their vote on Obamacare and still in the race.

What does that tell you?

Feingold always managaed to get elected by claiming to be a social leftwinger but a fiscalk conservative. As a Democrat, that was all just a lie. It just took years to become painfully obvious. Feingold, buh-bye!

Ask Dr. Janda how good the law looks to him: Dr. David Janda explains rationing

Every voter in WI needs to see this before heading to the polls.

I can’t wait for this douchebag to go down.

And to hear the moaning and groaning of his good buddy “Sly”, his gay Madison radio personality buddy you may remember had 15 seconds of fame a few years ago for calling Condoleeza Rich “Aunt Jemima” and for bashing Bush even before it was cool.

They both suck.

Oh please! Like Feingold isn’t the epitome of a NYC LibRat pantywaist transplant, spreading their dogma of victimized cootie degenerate holier-than-thou outrage. Like Jon Stewart.

Just sitting here, waiting for their ‘Micheal Richards’ moments.

All the his ads paint Feingold as a maverick, but Russ voted for every one of Obama’s socialist schemes. For Feingold, Obama is not nearly radical left enough. Feingold’s opponent, Ron Johnson, has refrained from attacking Feingold on personal issues and even said he, Feingold, loves his country. But Johnson clearly pointed out the ideological differences especially on the spending. Johnson comes off as a pretty straight shooter.

“Yep, that was the plan. Destroy the health insurance companies and then the government will step in and provide a single payer system. “

What you stated is the very core of what they want to do; and have done in the past.
Create a crisis, and then be there with the solution.

The bastard FDR did this by keeping our economy in depression for years longer than needed. His hate for private enterprise keep the private sector from getting the economy functioning.

Feingold has always been a communist. But Wisconsin has been voting Bolshevik (excepting Tommy Thompson) since 1988. The whole upper midwest has been in the tank since the Reagan years with Minnesoota flu.

I still remember Feingold’s moronic commercials during his first run in 1992. He stood in front of an ancient house and called it the old home place. There was no message at all to it. I couldn't believe people would elect such an idiot, let alone re-elect him twice while he voted for every left wing schmuck item that came along.

Feingold a “Maverick????” He wouldn’t vote against the leftist base under any circumstance! He, like his “maverick” co-worker John McCain are starting to learn that you can’t fool all of the people all of the time, unless they are Dems and this time around there just aren’t enough Dems to go around. In any event, if it weren’t for all the fraud in Milwaukee, I suspect that even with Madison, this state wouldn’t be nearly so blue.

“...Feingold told a sympathetic roundtable of a dozen women Friday morning.”

The best part of this article was learning that Feingold, in the final push of his campaign, is sitting around having coffee with a dozen of his admirers who still think he’s the bee’s knees. I’m sure he’s put away enough campaign money all these years to guarantee that he won’t have to live on Social Security.

“Russ Feingold has spent 18 years on the fringes of the Senate”

Instead of Senate fringing in D.C., maybe Russ should have been listening in to his constituents when he chose to be Obama’s water carrier and band leader in the fight for Obamacare. He didn’t listen, so now he’s paying the price. Presumably, he thought he could get away with ignoring his constituents again, since he’s been successfully doing that for the last 18 years. Looks like ol’ Russ miscalculated this time. It’s as simple as that, Ben Smith, so just cry me a river, baby, just cry me a river.
