A majority of active-duty and reserve service members surveyed by the Defense Department would not object to serving and living alongside openly gay troops, according to multiple people familiar with the findings.
The survey's results are expected to be included in a Pentagon report, due to President Obama on Dec. 1, regarding how the military would end enforcement of the "don't ask, don't tell" law that bans openly gay men and lesbians from serving in uniform.
Some troops surveyed - but not a majority - objected strongly to the idea of serving with gays and said they would quit the military if the policy changed, said the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly share details of the survey.
Defense Department officials did not respond to requests for comment.
NBC News first reported Thursday evening on the survey's findings.
In July, the Pentagon sent a survey with dozens of questions to 400,000 active-duty and reserve troops. It asked whether they had ever shared a room or the showers with gay peers, and how they might act if a gay service member lived with a same-sex partner on base.
Military officials did not say how many troops completed the survey, but at least 103,000 had done so just days before it was due, according to the Pentagon. A similar survey was later sent to military spouses.

NAIL ON HEAD
Have fun!
Ask that same question to Kimberly Bergalis, only substitite dentist for cardiologist.
Why don’t you go first and describe your own struggle with homosexuality.
Flushed another one out, eh?
This has been a magnet for the old and the new.
They must be discussing it on some anti-freeper site/chat room or something.
Assuming the troops surveyed were mostly younger men and women, the results might be accurate. Remember, they’re a generation that has been indoctrinated year after year via television, movies, school, etc., into believing these behaviors are acceptable and that there must be something wrong with the people who won’t accept it.
So says the Washington Pest.
Well said.
“Homonausea” is a better term. They make me sick.
Funny thing is when those pushing the homosexual agenda are presented with reason, rationality, evidence, and facts - they either leave the discussion, or act as though nothing proving them wrong was said, or start the usual “you’re really gay yourself” or “you’re a homophobe/bigot” stuff.
Like clockwork, I tell you!
But the military particularly attracts conservative types. And many serving now have had experience with homosexuals around them and if they’re normal men and women and not hardcore leftists, they know that homosexuals are bad for morale!
Tired - Sola Veritas posted his own experience with this very survey somewhere on the thread. He explains why the survey was worhtless - find his post and read it!
I read the handwriting on the wall 30 years ago and pulled out after 22 years. McNamara’s wiz-kids came thru the Installation where I was stationed and “recommended” changes on everything from Clubs to Latrines.
18 Months later I was on the street and damn glad for my decision!
I live in an area where I’m surrounded by Marines. We have some every lively discussions when we “stack up the brass”
during a neighbor BBQ’s. Lot’s of fun and I dare any bad guys to try anything as we all have our sector fields of fire assigned. Essyons and Semper Fi!!
“It is unbelievable”
You got that right!
Not excusing anyone for being vulgar, annoying and disgusting, but homosexuality *is* a vulgar, annoying and disgusting topic. The trick is how one is to discuss it without being that way one’s self.
>>> Military policy is not determined by referendum, so the question is moot.
On the other hand, want to bet if the results were OPPOSED to the new policy you’d be waving it like a flag on Iwo Jima?
A military is primarily composed of young people. More and more, young people don’t meltdown at the thought of somebody else being a homosexual, whether they personally approve the practice or not. And outraged old people just by attrition are less and less a relevant factor. The poll results are not surprising.
You sound just like tbrightusmc. Isn’t that odd.
Not me, I've been here longer, but...I'm not a troll. I don't think you're a troll. I do think you're one of those who claims to be conservative but when push comes to shove you're really not all that conservative. Guess what, though. Right now I don't care. As long as you help vote the conservatives in you're on my side.
Speaking of outraged old people.
