HARTFORD Wrestling fans might want to think twice about what they wear to the polls Election Day.
A voter wearing, say, a Cenation T-shirt in tribute to WWE superstar John Cena might be asked to remove it, depending on the discretion of poll workers.
That's because the secretary of the state's office is telling local election officials that the prohibition against political paraphernalia within 75 feet of a polling place could be extended to gear promoting World Wrestling Entertainment.
WWE is a worldwide entertainment company built by Republican U.S. Senate candidate Linda McMahon and currently run by her husband, Vince McMahon.
"Even though it doesn't say her name directly ... the brand is so ubiquitously associated with the McMahons,'' said Av Harris, a spokesman for Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz.
Harris acknowledged that any discussion about voters' apparel is a "very, very delicate issue."
"We have a candidate who is very very well-known, who is a celebrity to millions of fans throughout the country,'' he said. "This has been a very contentious, hard-fought campaign, but the sanctity of the polling place is sacrosanct.''

Now wearing a privately run company’s gear is political paraphernalia?
Panther gear optional. Clear attempt at voter intimidation. No low is too low for a Democrat.
Lets see then...wearing a Cross would also be prohibited because of the anti-abortion anti “Progressive” sentiment it portends. This government MUST be changed.
Sounds like a job for the Department of Redundancy Department...
That’s funny because in 2008 there were a couple of stupid college slackers sporting che guevara t-shirts to the polls - and there is no closer identification than the one between che and zero.
but you can wear a WTF t-shirt, or any kind of near-porno you want.
I thought you’d get a kick out of this...
The sick bastards might just make everyone ‘drop trou’ to make sure.
“Are you kidding me? Guys don’t wear anything close to ties and jackets even for weddings and funerals anymore. I think it’s a commentary on this coarsening society.”
Declining values are often accompanied by declining traditions. There are a few remaining areas of decorum, but not many.
This is total BS..... total BS. Ban the SOS.
Good grief.
Thanks for helping O'Reilly, genius.
Izzat you Retief?
It’s not “Voter Suppression”, we’re just not going to let you vote.
When we said “Free speech”, we didn’t mean for you.
Now pay your taxes I need a raise. :)
Thanks for playing the game, better luck next time...
So then is an “I’m with stupid” tee shirt also prohibited due to the instant association with the Obama administration?
I first came across The Department Of Redundancy Department in Keith Laumer’s series of Retief Sci-Fi/humor novels. Retief was the main character who dealt with the insane bureaucracy of the Future. The books are hilarious.
“Keith Laumer is best known for his Bolo stories and his satirical Retief series. The former chronicles the evolution of super tanks that eventually become self-aware through the constant improvement resulting from centuries of intermittent warfare against various alien races. The latter deals with the adventures of a cynical spacefaring diplomat who constantly has to overcome the red-tape-infused failures of people with names like Ambassador Grossblunder. The Retief stories were greatly influenced by Laumer’s earlier career in the United States Foreign Service. In an interview with Paul Walker of Luna Monthly, Laumer states “I had no shortage of iniquitous memories of the Foreign Service.”
I stole it from Monty Python...
