Fox News moved swiftly to turn the controversy over Juan Williamss firing to its advantage, offering him an expanded role and a new three-year contract Thursday morning in a deal that amounts to nearly $2 million, Matea Gold reports.
Roger Ailes took a jab at NPR in the process.
"Juan has been a staunch defender of liberal viewpoints since his tenure began at Fox News in 1997, he said in a statement. Hes an honest man whose freedom of speech is protected by Fox News on a daily basis.
In his new role, Williams will appear more frequently on the network and have a regular column on FoxNews.com.

I’m not the slightest bit fond of Juan, but... good for him, and good for Fox!
That is $666,666.67 per year. Oops.
Imagine the reaction here if the FoxNews gave Comrade Juan a $2 Million contract if none of this NPR stuff went down.
I am not going to cheer FoxNews monies going to that commie when they could have spent it on getting a real conservative on the air. Nobody is going to or ever has tuned into FoxNews to watch Juanito.
I suspect that Sir Juan may have had a wake up call and not be quite so sympathetic to he commie left after they showed him their true colors.
While I do not agree with Juan’s views, it was the right thing to do.
Fox has always given him fair treatment, and it’s always good to have a liberal on so you know where there coming from as well. Even though they are dead wrong most of the time.
I’m sure 2 million dollars is a lot less than what NPR was giving him though(snicker).
This should also get him a new book deal, then he can plug the book in every Fox appearance and every network except PBS - LOLOL, NPR!
Personally I waffle about being balanced....because the MSM is totally not.
But I salute FOX....for being the fairest network. Period.
And I happen to respect Juan...........
An all-out conservative network would be nice but would have less credibility and fewer viewers than Fox enjoys right now. There needs to be a balance to keep people both honest and interested.
I think it’s great that FOX did this but couldn’t we have made a trade for Shepard Smith?
If a tree falls in the woods...
They needed a Lib to be balanced. Whatever.
And the only black face.
His new official title: Britt Hume’s Pinata.
I can’t believe all the short sighted cheerleadong I’m reading here for FNS. Big deal...they poked NPR in the eye. They also committed even more air time to one of the biggest liberal block heads on TV.
That too.
is Juan Willians a liberal who has not been mugged?
Yes he is and this Juan lovefest is just silly.
“Juan is just another leftist turd. FOX isnt going to get any higher ratings with this leftist. When can we get an all out conservative network.”
I would not want “an all out conservative network” because I want to hear more than one side of issues. I know what I believe and other views don’t scare me. If Fox did only conservative news they would have no credibility. They have conservative talk shows (most of which I do not watch), but the Fox News Report is a really balanced program. I love their round table and I also enjoy Fox News Sunday.
They are asking for $630 million dollars in 2012.
Their budget should be zero'd out in my opinion. They are major funders of organizations like OPB, Oregon Public Broadcasting, which is relentlessly liberal. Let the states fund liberal radio networks if they want. Ultimately a lot of this money goes to the "big guys" of Public Broadcasting, the stations in New York, Boston and Philly. Their sick blue-state views are then syndicated out all over the nation to influence weak minds.
Defund CPB!
Thats mighty white of them
