Fox hands [Juan] Williams $2 million contract

Fox News moved swiftly to turn the controversy over Juan Williams’s firing to its advantage, offering him an expanded role and a new three-year contract Thursday morning in a deal that amounts to nearly $2 million, Matea Gold reports.

Roger Ailes took a jab at NPR in the process.

"Juan has been a staunch defender of liberal viewpoints since his tenure began at Fox News in 1997,” he said in a statement. “He’s an honest man whose freedom of speech is protected by Fox News on a daily basis.”

In his new role, Williams will appear more frequently on the network and have a regular column on FoxNews.com.

I can imagine Ed Schultz’s head exploding upon hearing this news. Keith Olberfurhrer and Rachel Maddyke will have a lot to say about this tonight I am sure.

They own a small share, they are hardly majority stockholders; and thus “owners”.

If every Saudi decided to sell Fox news stock, they would most likely find willing buyers and the price might go down a few cents. Ouch.

Thus the impact on the bottom line would be marginal compared to any movement to dilute the effort to put out the best and most watched shows in TV news.

But maybe the world is easier for you to understand if you can put it all under the “Saudi owned” umbrella, even if it is only a 4% truth and a 96% untruth.

Whatever.

“....although I disagree with him 99 percent of the time he seems to be a genuine guy who really believes what he says and we should embrace those with viewpoints that don’t necessarily jell with ours, it keeps us honest and prevents us from falling to far to the extreme.”

Well said.....C

AWESOME NEWS. Maybe now Juan will understand that its the LEFT who are the racist a-holes and he will come to the right. I hope so. Never agreed with Juan’s political views but never thought he was a bad guy. He was actually one of the few leftists who I can still stomach hearing. You see it Juan, do you FINALLY see who the REAL bigots are..its NPR and its the left

He’s principled and stimulating. Wrong on most points, but principled and stimulating none the less.

I actually don’t mind Juan Williams. his views are different than mine, but he keeps things civil. Fox represents what America is supposed to represent. Welcome Juan.

I’m confused, yesterday I loathed the liberal SOB and now I’m supposed to be cheering because he got a contract on the station that I wished he got fired from?

Juan presents the LibDem positions in a much more tolerable way than Combs, so I’ll take Juan as a talking head. At least he can string sentences together.

Juan is just another leftist turd. FOX isn’t going to get any higher ratings with this leftist. When can we get an all out conservative network.

Hey at least he is better then Colmes, but it is always good to have liberal views to compare Conservatives to. Problem with NPR, CNN, MSNBC (that is includes Morning Joe now) is that they only have liberal views. His presence will help bring more viewers thus better for Conservatives.

I am happy this has worked out for Juan, but he really is a big lib. This may turn out to be a “every silver lining has a cloud” moment. I can see Juan joining Shep for the MSNBC hour every afternoon on FOX.
