In the wake of NPR's firing of contributor Juan Williams over comments about Muslims, Mike Huckabee is calling on the next Congress to cut the radio network's funding when it convenes next year. "NPR has discredited itself as a forum for free speech and a protection of the First Amendment rights of all and has solidified itself as the purveyor of politically correct pabulum and protector of views that lean left," Huckabee said in a statement provided to CNN. Williams told Fox News host Bill O'Reilly on Monday that he gets "worried" and "nervous" on flights when he sees people wearing "Muslim garb." NPR terminated Williams' contract on Wednesday evening. Huckabee said he "will no longer accept interview requests from NPR as long as they are going to practice a form of censorship, and since NPR is funded with public funds, it is a form of censorship. It is time for the taxpayers to start making cuts to federal spending, and I encourage the new Congress to start with NPR," he said... Like Williams, the former Arkansas governor is also a contributor to the Fox News channel.Huckabee called Williams "refreshingly honest and candid," adding: "There isn't a more honest and fair-minded person in journalism."Thanks quesney. I never have been, and am not now, a fan of Juan Williams, a partisan media shill if ever there was one, but what he said is A) probably a common experience and B) National Partisan Radio shouldn't EVER have been getting anyone's tax dollars.
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Before they cut social security, take the fraud out of every department of the
government, example,in 1992 an audit was done of the department of education they
could not account for 70% of its budget. Also in the same year, they did an
audit of the IRS and they could not account for 66% of it’s budget. United
Nations, World Bank, WTO, IMF, and all other foreign aide.
That’s right. I’m all for radio broadcasts into enemy countries to undermine them. That is just another defense tool. The issue is the government broadcasting propaganda to us to control how news is presented to its own citizens. Now we know its a firing offense to tell people that a reporter has fears about seeing people in Muslim garb on airplanes.
I seem to remember Clarence Page saying that he felt nervous when he saw young black men in street clothes following him at night and that he breathed a sigh of relief if he found out they where white. I wonder what Clarence will say about this.
The Cold War is over.

The Case for De-Funding Public Broadcasting
Countering the well-documented liberal bias on such PBS programs as NOW, formerly hosted by Bill Moyers, CPB chairman Kenneth Tomlinson arranged for taxpayer funding, to the tune of about $5 million, for a new weekly broadcast featuring Paul Gigot and members of the editorial board of The Wall Street Journal. This has led to charges that Tomlinson is manipulating the political content of public broadcasting and threatening its independence. Tomlinson argues that he is trying to expand the potential audience of PBS and build support for the network.
Tomlinson is correct to insist that public broadcasting programs obey the law requiring objectivity and balance, as long as they receive federal money. But AIM does not believe the answer to liberal bias on public TV or radio is to fund conservative bias. The problem with this approach is that people like Moyers are going to be clamoring for more funding of liberal bias. Indeed, Moyers has asked, Why not $5 million to put the editors of The Nation [magazine] on PBS? He advocated balancing right-wing talk with left-wing talk.
AIM believes that this means the taxpayers lose. The proper response is to terminate the funding and save the taxpayers $400 million a year. Isnt this a reasonable compromise?

Time to stop using any taxpayer money for any radio broadcasts.
Amen. He played the "former pastor" card to get a lot of the Christian vote in 2008 which shut out a lot of other candidates I thought were more conservative. He's essentially the biggest obstacle to Sarah Palin in 2012 and Palin supporters need to hammer him on the clemency thing that led to four cops getting murdered in Washington state. The media loves him because they know he'll be easy to beat if he's the nominee.
With all that said, defund ALL taxpayer funds for public broadcasting. That's hardly an original or Huckabee position.
Williams is a token in SO many ways! And by the way the words "honest" and fair minded" when used in conjunction with "journalism" is such an oxymoron. Kind of like "military intelligence" says the former infantryman, tongue firmly in cheek.

{Mike Huckabee is calling on the next Congress to cut the radio network’s funding when it convenes next year.}
Now if only Fox Network would cut funding and get rid of that sleazy backstabber.
They should really have Ds by their names.
“Me either! Don’t even bother calling me, NPR!”
LOL
“Gosh, I actually agree with the Huckster on something. Go figure.”
Even a broken clock is right twice/day...;)
OK...END OF DISCUSSION. You are nuts. We started with your commentary on Radio Free Europe, and now we are back to Corp. Public Broadcasting.
YOU make no sense, so I’m outta here.
Good for Huckabee. Why must we pay for this leftist BS.
“Time to stop using any taxpayer money for any radio broadcasts.”
Amen!
I kind of like Huckabee...he just doesnt make a good conservative politician however.
What makes no sense about “stop using taxpayer money to fund any radio broadcasts”?
