Rove: Tea party 'not sophisticated' By: Andy Barr October 19, 2010 12:46 PM EDT

Karl Rove credits the tea party with bringing new energy to the right, but says that when you take a look at the grassroots movement it is “not sophisticated.”

“I meet a lot of Tea Partiers as I go around the country, and they are amazing people,” said the ex-advisor to former President George W. Bush in an interview with Der Spiegel.

But structurally, Rove said the tea party has little in common with the Reagan Revolution that has powered the conservative movement for decades.

“It was also a well-organized, coherent, ideologically motivated and conservative revolution,” Rove said of the Reagan Revolution. “If you look underneath the surface of the Tea Party movement, on the other hand, you will find that it is not sophisticated.

“It's not like these people have read the economist Friedrich August von Hayek,” Rove added. “Rather, these are people who are deeply concerned about what they see happening to their country, particularly when it comes to spending, deficits, debt and health care.”

I’m not interested in hearing from Karl Rove. He was WRONG about O’Donnell, and he has yet to apologize.

That's funny, Karl: I'm a Tea Party guy and I have read Hayek. And Friedman. And von Mises, too. And I'm hardly alone in that respect.

You want to know what the difference is between people like us and GOP elitists? We actually understand what we read and think it matters. You guys read their names in magazine articles to be able to sound smart at cocktail parties.

Hey Karl, last time I looked, the American Revolution started out as several disorganized groups who shared a common grievance. The problem with huge, ‘organized’ groups is that they can be controlled and manipulated by a very small select few. I don’t care if this ‘tea party group’ in the next town is ‘different’ than my group. What matters is that we share the same goal(s) and seek to reach the same results. If they have to be structured differently to achieve that in their area, compared to my area, fine.

Wait, if he said it was a sophisticated well oiled machine, then that would be scary. No Karl just paid the Tea Party it’s highest complement.

Folks, this is Politico, and Politico wants you to hate Karl Rove. Keep that in mind.

Politico has NOTHING to do with the reasons many of us dislike Rove...

You have to be sophisticated to believe that enacting additional Medicare entitlements, creating a unionized TSA, creating a Department of “Homeland Security”, pouring additional money into the sewer of government education in collaboration with Teddy Kennedy, failing to defend our Iraq policy, filling, or trying to fill your administration with people like Harriet Miers, Alberto Gonzales, Condi Rice, and Karl Rove, and “compassionate conservatism” is what the country needs and will lead to a generation of GOP ascendancy. The Tea Party folks just don’t have that kind of sophistication.

BTW, the marks of having read Hayek were plainly all over the Bush administration. /s

Can’t stand Rove. He is part of the problem. But he is correct here.

The Tea Party people are putting up candidates that just are going to have a hard time winning against the experience snakes.

But don’t give up. Keep up the tsunami. We will eventually win and we can take back this country.

You know, the LSM, Politico, etc., are engendering REAL hatred and FIGHT. Such words cause fire in our bellies and understanding that we each toe the line here as the last stand of freedom. Apathy and division? No. Closing ranks is more like it.

We shall not win if we do not FIGHT.

Turn into the wind, folks. Feel the air on your faces.

No kidding. The Tea Party Movement has a lot more in common with Hayek (and Mises, for that matter) than Rove and his big-goverment conservatism.

Historically that is a compliment. The King George of England had similar thoughts and statements about the American Patriots revolting against his thrown. Thank you very much Karl Rove for the compliment.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. It's hard to believe that in less than a decade, this man has gone from being lauded as an "evil genius" by most of us here on the right to the object of scorn.

Thes inevitably, leads to one question: Who moved? Did Rove BECOME an elitist and forget where his bread was buttered...or were we just duped. Someone has changed...

I think it was us. We have seen them ALL for who they really are.

Rove is part of the ‘elite’ political class. What he doesn’t understand is that is what we HATE.

Those that look down their nose at me take the risk of having that nose cut off.
