... estimates are that 9,000 people associated with the Shuttle Program will lose their jobs... plus another 14,000 in local retail, government, and other services...

IMHO, Obama wants space exploration money to go to his base: illegals, criminals, and permanent welfare bums. He has no problem with ending one of the nation's greatest endeavors as he sees the space program as a cause of American "arrogance." Anyone in FL that votes for Dems next month needs a mental evaluation.

Lesson learned: Don’t build your local economy around Federal Government largesse. (it’s called the Johnstown Syndrome)

Aren’t these 9,000 people going to be re-trained in “Muslim Outreach”?

Turn the launch tower into a casino.
Houston has a whole list of trial balloons for what to do with an empty structure. The city is contractually prohibited from using the Astrodome for any of a number of things it could be used for.

The best part of our trip to Orlando and Vero beach. The space center was wonderful. My first 3D experience, my kids (and I) were reaching out trying to touch the items on the screen. I walked the orange gangway Armstrong Aldrin and Collins walked heading to the Moon.

At least in this case, there is some redeeming quality to the area (Cocoa Beach).

Remember the Apollo (click here) program? This has happened to the Cape area before. Worst thing that happened to the economy around the Cape was the success of the Apollo program. Great buys on real estate then, and perhaps upcoming as well. I spent '64 - '70 in the area with a company called Tektronix.

Couldn’t those folks be kept working by having them manufacture prefab Muslim mosque’s to be shipped all over the country?

I love it when people say stuff like ‘that money should be spent here on earth’. What, did they leave a suitcase of money on the moon? Every darn penny was spent here on earth and went back into the economy somewhere.

I’m sure we wouldn’t have 500K plus people living in Brevard county if we were still harvesting Oranges and Grapefruit. Atleast the tax dollars spent on NASA went to pay people to BUILD stuff.
