"A few may genuinely believe global warming is a left-wing plot. Others may be singing the tune of corporate benefactors. And many Republicans have seized on the cap-and-trade climate bill as another way to paint Democrats as out-of-control taxers.
"In one way or another, though, all are custodians of a strategy whose guiding principle has been to avoid debate about solutions to climate change by denying its existence or at least by diminishing its importance. The strategy worked, destroying hopes for Congressional action while further confusing ordinary citizens for whom global warming was already a remote and complex matter. It was also remarkably heavy-handed."

*Sproing!*
We should also be chastised for “avoiding debate about a solution” to the rampaging purple elephant problem.
“. . . all are custodians of a strategy whose guiding principle has been to avoid debate about solutions to climate change by denying its existence or at least by diminishing its importance.”
This is not true. Skeptics argue that the globe warms up and down naturally and has for millenia. Most skeptics also agree that CO2 will cause a small, linear increase in temperatures—so small it is not interesting.
The dispute about AGW is whether man-released CO2 causes a non-linear increase in temperature. Put another way, does the little tiny linear increase in temperature cause a bunch of other stuff that is a positive feedback into the system resulting in much more temperature increase.
Either the times reporter does not understand the science or he is deliberately misrepresenting the issue.
“already a remote and complex matter”, thats it we are too dumb to understand again
CO2 may indeed be an EFFECT, and not a cause.
Besides, of the “greenhouse gases”,
the effect of manmade CO2 is
0.117%
of the total greenhouse effect.
Those two are not mutually exclusive. Perhaps they are delusional, power mad liars.
As it most always is follow the money is the way to out these evil totalitarians. Look into who owns the company that will handle all the money that will be collected for the carbon credits and who owns the software to handle the trillions of dollars.
It isn't just the cental command of many by a few. More specifically the entire left wants to heavily restrict the general population from doing things that cause the left to feel envious. They want us all to sit quietly in a small dimly lit housing project apartment watching PBS on a small TV, and not breathing very much. They believe that would finally ease their pangs of envy and they could then feel happy and content for the first time.
It was also remarkably heavy-handed.The only heavy-handedness has come from self-enriching demagogues like Al Gore, and partisan shills as are found in the pages of the New York Slimes. Years ago the phony claim that the ice at the North Pole had melted for the first time in "millions of years" was printed multiple times by that shill sheet; Letterman actually used this crazed lunatic lie in his opening monologue multiple times that week. By the end of the week, the Slimes printed a de facto retraction, which Letterman then noted in his monologue. Then, in that weekend's supplements, the very same agitprop appeared again in the Slimes. That's an example of the heavy-handedness in this debate, which Al Gore stated was "over", speaking of heavy-handedness. Thanks ApplegateRanch.
Worth repeating.
“They want us all to sit quietly in a small dimly lit housing project apartment watching PBS on a small TV, and not breathing very much.”
You have part of it right. The second half is that the Marxist scum wants to sit in French-style outdoor cafes, wearing stove pipe hats and black cravats, stroking pointy beards, sipping absinthe and eating croissants and watching the tattered and shoeless proletariat slaves skitter off to work in the soybean plantations.
Most serious Marxists I’ve met are stuck in a European timewarp between 1850 and 1917, hoping for a new Engels and Marx to pop up and lead a new Lenin in a workers revolt against the bourgeoisie and kulaks. King obuma is of that delusion. He’s quite mad, loopy.
