A Muslim family was wrongly denied access to an aquatic center in Lyons last summer when employees told them their clothing violated the facility's rules, state officials said Friday.

In August 2009, Mahmoud Yaqub took his wife, Faten Alaraj, and two young sons to Cermak Family Aquatic Center, 7600 W. Ogden Ave., which is run by the Forest Preserve District of Cook County.

I could be wrong, but isn’t there a safety reason for the clothing restrictions?

I would imagine that the policies vary by facility but that's just a guess on my part.

Alaraj was denied entry to the water park because she was wearing a long dress and headscarf instead of a swimsuit, according to a complaint filed with the Illinois Department of Human Rights. When she agreed to leave, Yaqub and his sons also were prevented from entering because park officials told them their swimsuits were not made of the proper material.

So, when a Muslim woman drowns because the weight of her full length dress is to much for her to tread water with - who do you suppose gets sued?

There are reasons for materials being banned from public pools. For example, cut-off jeans shed denim threads, which in turn plug the lines and filters.

Long hair is a hazzard for pools, because it can be pulled into the pool drain and entangle a person's head under water - leading to drowning. So, special drain covers are installed to help prevent this. Now we have long dresses which will in turn also be sucked into the water drains - and cause entanglement and drowning.

How about we let the Muslims swim in our oceans, rivers and swamps? They can wear their street clothes and cut-off jeans as much as they want - and if they drown, at least they help feed the environment.

Visited my daughter in Minneapolis. Our border collie was thirsty, and being her resourceful self, she pushed open the gate to the public pool and took a drink from the edge of the pool and came back out the same way.

The pool was closed immediately and the next day it was drained and cleaned. The muzzies had a fit!

The husband was actually going to let his slave, um wife swim? What’s going to happen when that head to toe garb gets wet, huh? It’s going to cling head to toe like a wet t-shirt contest which I’m sure would demand a stoning on the spot. Seems to me the pool employees saved her life.

Yes, excessive and loose clothing can impede swimming ability and become entangled creating a danger of injury.

Likely, this was the reason for the concern.

Yes, that is correct.

You cannot be denied access to the water park simply because you have a bomb strapped around your waist.

A full body wetsuit with a hood should meet all requirements.

Of course they did!

Muslims have now reached a population percentile in the U.S. where they are confident of their ability to start challenging all aspects of our way of life.

Islam delenda est.

They had a suicide bomber day at our local amusement park this summer. I was totally disgusted that they let them wear their dirty street clothes into the pool at the water park.

They really are the most disgusting people on this planet.

hmmmm...perhaps a couple “bacon attacks” of muslim pools. It is expensive to have to drain a pool every week or two.

I've been swimming regularly for about 20 years in a wide range of pools, from apartment pools to elite pools where Olympians and other world-class swimmers train. I doubt that safety has anything to do with their not allowing this idiot woman in the water. Indeed, swimmers in training use all kinds of gadgets that could be called dangerous, and wear "drag suits" sometimes on purpose to increase drag in the water as they swim, so they become stronger swimmers.

Hodar has it right. It's the fabric. If the stuff is made of nylon, lycra, polyester, or any other fabric of the type that won't leave a bunch of lint in the dryer screen thingy, it's okay. But if it's cotton or linen or any other fabric of the kind that when you put it in the dryer, when the cycle is finished you have a big layer of fuzz in the lint-catcher screen, it's going to be hell on a pool filter. Sadly, even a lot of gyms with pools either aren't aware of this or don't try to enforce it, and allow their members to wear cotton t-shirts in the swimming pool. When I see two or more folks doing this over the course of the 75 minutes I spend in the pool, sure enough the next day the water will be murky because the filters have clogged, and I'll see the pool guys at work to get it right.

These idiot Muslims have no excuse. Many swimwear companies make pool-friendly full-body lycra swimsuits for Islamic women. Islam is a barbaric and primitive form of male-adolescent-mentality paranoia.

“So, when a Muslim woman drowns because the weight of her full length dress is to much for her to tread water with - who do you suppose gets sued?”

It’s worse than that. The lifeguard jumps in and saves her and the woman’s husband becomes enraged at an infidel man touching his property. He then sues, kills his wife AND declares Jihad.

..plus, it's always dirty, our pools are not a clothes washer.

We are modern life forms, they are not.

A place for everything and everything in it's place.

Put it in the hamper, bitch.

This is the right approach. They are entitled to the benefits of the pool, along with all the risks of their actions.

Let them sign a waiver so when they drown in the pool because of their Muslim faith, they can’t sue anybody. After all it would have been Allah who let them die for being a bunch of retarded embeciles who would rather make a political point than stay out of harm’s way.
