Hehe... the guy he beat up was thrown out of the game, and Nolan Ryan wasn’t. ;’)

Hehe... the guy he beat up was thrown out of the game, and Nolan Ryan wasnt. ;) Ever think what it must have felt like to be hit repeatedly in the head by a guy who can throw a baseball in the high 90 mph range ;^)

Ryan’s last time on the mound, he tore a bunch of stuff in his arm, a career-ending injury.
Then he made one more pitch.

I’m glad I finally found the baseball threads! Just saw former Giant Bengie Molina lay a three-run homer on the Yankees.
I saw Nolan throw his 7th no-hitter against the A’s... sent him a nice note and one of my ticket stubs, and received the signed stub back *before I got the confirmation from Fedex that it had been delivered in Alvin.
It was a big day. :)

Hi Star, thank you as ever for your pings to info about this great man. How can ANY American, no matter what their political persuasion, watch that video from Yankee Stadium and think ill of George W. Bush, the man? That was THE quintessential American moment -- a defining American moment. GWB calmly walked out to the mound, stood there all alone and gave the crowd a thumbs up, then tossed a perfect strike while wearing a bulletproof vest. Then he calmly walked back to the dugout. How many people ever born were or are made of that kind of stuff?
The particular kind of courage and leadership he showed in those days immediately following 9/11 are so rare that I think too many people are incapable of recognizing it for what it actually is. Plus, I think we are so bitterly divided politically that too many people define everything through a political lens. They seem incapable of grasping that there is far more to life -- and leadership -- than mere politics.
For that pitch, alone, to say nothing of his promotion of baseball throughout his adult life, GWB ought to be given a special place in the baseball Hall of Fame.
