White House Adviser Valerie Jarrett Apologizes for Calling Homosexuality 'Lifestyle Choice'

White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett apologized to the gay community Thursday after she referred to homosexuality as a "lifestyle choice" during a discussion about the wave of recent teen suicides.

"I meant no disrespect to the LGBT community, and I apologize to any who have taken offense at my poor choice of words," Jarrett said in a written statement.

The Obama confidante made the off-hand comment in an interview Wednesday with The Washington Post. She was talking about a speech she delivered Saturday to the Human Rights Campaign, a gay rights group, on teens who've killed themselves after being bullied over their sexual orientation.

In praising the parents of one teenager who killed himself in Minnesota, she said: "These are good people. They were aware that their son was gay. They embraced him, they loved him, they supported his lifestyle choice. But yet when he left the home and went to school, he was tortured by his classmates."

There aren't a lot of choices.

If God is correct, the queers are Sodomites and should be destroyed ...

Nope, I don't think they want THAT one.

If it's a disease, it must be cured, eradicated ... I don't think they want that one, neither.

If it's a mental quirk, well once again it is something to be cured and I think they've agreed to not accept that.

If homosexuality is a choice, that means they have voluntarilly taken posession of desease and death (ala AIDS) and are suicidally dangerous around all non homosexual society ... I'm pretty sure thay're not gonna' go for THAT.

I don't know what else the cause or reason for homosexuality could be unless they're trying to say it's normal ... in which case they are vastly outnumbered and couldn't possibly be correct.

I posted this on youtube a while ago. You would not believe the venom and filthy comments that were returned. The one thing that struck me as odd was through all the comments not one disputed the facts.

I think we need to be careful with words. Living any type of lifestyle is a choice and engaging in any specific behavior is a choice.

What's not a choice for most homosexuals is their same-sex attraction. While some homosexuals admit to choosing their homosexuality such as those who adhere to the thoughts and statements on the Queer By Choice website, most don't choose their same-sex attraction. The important point is there is still no science to support the born that way theory. Another very valid point is many homosexuals have left the homosexual lifestyle.

So for those who:

• didn't choose their same-sex attraction
• admit science still doesn't support the born that way theory
• admit homosexuals can leave the lifestyle...

While I think it's quite complicated, we're left with: for each homosexual, why or from where did same-sex attraction originate? When you objectively look at all the evidence, I think the only logical perspective is: homosexuals are confused about their sexuality.

And the insistence that it is not a choice could contribute to the suicides. The teen sees no way out of the situation. After all, it's not a choice. I was born this way. I'll never be any different. Whereas if someone told him that there may be help, that others have gone to psychiatrists and been cured of same sex attraction disorder, the teen may have found the hope necessary to not take his own life.

Sometimes they could use some good talking to rather than encouraging some manias.

Because it’s clear that homosexuals are mentally ill and no it’s not because I don’t know any of them. My brother is one. Quite frankly he knows it’s a lifestyle choice. Even if there was some sort of trigger that means you look at the same sex the way the rest of us look at the opposite sex then you still have a “choice” of whether or not to play that out. You could choose to put away those feelings in order to take your place in the rightful order of things. They just choose not to.
