Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the Army psychiatrist charged with killing 13 people in a shooting spree at Fort Hood and wounding dozens of others, begins an arduous legal process today that could end in his death.
The Article 32 proceeding, as it is called, could run for more than a month with Col. James Pohl sifting through the evidence. Pohl's task will be to gather evidence and then tell higher-level commanders if a trial should be ordered.
It isn't clear how Hasan's lawyer, himself a former military judge, will counter testimony, likely from GIs in a crowded Fort Hood deployment center. Some said Hasan, a devout Muslim, cried "God is great!" in Arabic, but retired Army Col. John Galligan will say only that he's in an uphill battle to save his client's life.
"To get complete acquittal, it's difficult to say whether that would happen or not until we've got him through the Article 32 and the sanity board," he told the San Antonio Express-News. "If there's a sanity board issue enough that presents a realistic mental responsibility issue, we could be talking about the possibility of an acquittal."

Jeez, just how long does it take to make a rope anyway.
This piece of degenerate offal needs to stop breathing.
Hopefully it will be arranged.
As I was walking through the company cafeteria this morning, I hear CNN: “...Hasan, the man accused of shooting 13 people”...
Accused??? Are you kidding me?
Just watch...somehow the nobama administration will end up appointing this traitorous trash mooslim terrorist as Czar of mooslim Relations and promoting him. Or maybe they’ll give him an Honorable Discharge and disability pension?
It's a cover-your-ass tactic. If the media refers to someone as a criminal and he beats the rap in court then he can sue them for slander.

It sad that we have to listen to foreign press reports to get a true picture.
MSM still have the cool aide stain on their lips.
Further cause for delay: it’s not just Hasan who’s on trial, it’s the whole d@mn PC-pro-Islam-sotted chain of command!
If Hasan’s convicted, then so is Gen. Casey the Army chief of staff, and he’s doing everything he can to slow the trial including NO MENTION OF ISLAM as a factor in the Fort Hood massacre!
I understand why they do it in general when referring to suspects. This man isn't a suspect, he actually did this. The core facts in this case are not in doubt. Hasan went on a shooting rampage resulting in the death of 13 people and injuries to others.
Just once a little accuracy in reporting would be nice.
Why has it taken a year to START the legal process for this maggot?
What bothers me is the sanity part. IMO if he was sane enough
to plan and prosecute his bloody jihad he is sane enough to be tried as murderer of 14.(fundamental American law -The declaration of Independence noted well the truth “All men are Created equal;that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life) The jihadi denied the lives of 14-and when judged by a righteous Judge will be held to that. And the wounding of so many others.
I would have him kept—alive(like the Catholic would do- for no human government is now capable of acting as agents of a righteous God0 But I would have him forced to read aloud equal portions of the Christian and the Hebrew sacred texts
that his Islamic mind might know before God Almighty brings him to the judgment seat the evil that his system spawned.
But sanity? Would any Military judge be willing to make the statement that being Muslim equates to insanity?
I sincerely hope that the Col. remembers his brothers in arms and doesn't work too hard at it.
Yes, but if he gets off, they could be sued. It does not matter if he did it or not. It matters if it is proven in a court of law. Reality or truth don’t really matter.
