Nonfarm payroll employment falls 95,000 (Unemployment rate unchanged at 9.6%)
Bureau of Labor Statistics ^

Posted on 10/08/2010 5:44:19 AM PDT by quesney

Nonfarm payroll employment edged down (-95,000) in September, and the unem- ployment rate was unchanged at 9.6 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Sta- tistics reported today. Government employment declined (-159,000), reflec- ting both a drop in the number of temporary jobs for Census 2010 and job losses in local government. Private-sector payroll employment continued to trend up modestly (+64,000).

Household Survey Data

The number of unemployed persons, at 14.8 million, was essentially un- changed in September, and the unemployment rate held at 9.6 percent. (See table A-1.)

Among the major worker groups, the unemployment rate for adult men (9.8 percent), adult women (8.0 percent), teenagers (26.0 percent), whites (8.7 percent), blacks (16.1 percent), and Hispanics (12.4 percent) showed little or no change in September. The jobless rate for Asians was 6.4 percent, not seasonally adjusted. (See tables A-1, A-2, and A-3.)

The number of long-term unemployed (those jobless for 27 weeks and over), at 6.1 million, was little changed over the month but was down by 640,000 since a series high of 6.8 million in May. In September, 41.7 percent of unemployed persons had been jobless for 27 weeks or more. (See table A-12.)

In September, both the civilian labor force participation rate, at 64.7 percent, and the employment-population ratio, at 58.5 percent, were un- changed. (See table A-1.)

The number of persons employed part time for economic reasons (sometimes referred to as involuntary part-time workers) rose by 612,000 over the month to 9.5 million. Over the past 2 months, the number of such workers has increased by 943,000. These individuals were working part time be- cause their hours had been cut back or because they were unable to find a full-time job. (See table A-8.)

How’s that hopey-changey thing working out, America.

Brett Baire just reported on Fox that 1 in 5 workers don’t have a job.

That’s depression-level living.

We could lose 2 million jobs next month and the unemployment rate would be unchanged at 9.6%.

Yeah, fudging the numbers is an art!

if the BO Administration had managed to manipulate the number to 9.5%, the MSM would announce with glee

The sad thing is, this rate is liable to be the best we see for a few years and that is IF we remove the problem now!

When democrats/Marxists can no longer be hurt, after the election on Nov 2,unexpectedly the unemployment rate will be above 10%.

Democrats/socialists are surely destroying the economy.

Real unemployment above 20%.

10% unemployment is a "magic" deadly number for the Dems and the MSM - they will NEVER admit to or release this number

I could never get this part, the economy loses almost 100,000 jobs yet the unemployment numbers stay the same?

64,000 doesn’t even cover the hundred’s of thousands that “drop out of the jobs market” because those are no longer counted in any stats. It would take 200,000+ private sector job growth per month to see any real movement to the positive.

Obama is sticking to his meme that it could have been worse and it's Bush's fault. The rumors are most definitely true, he is drinking again and smoking 2 packs a day and spends long periods in the dark in the Oval Office, a creepy behavior white house staffers noticed back in 2009. He is a disturbed, angry, deluded, damaged mentally ill individual. I think he loses 45 satets in 2012..their house now 100 seats gone and the Senate gone also. Well this is what you get when you hire a Adjunct Asst. Temporary Professor , full of stupid theoretical ideas and catchy slogans.

Yeah one report of fake election statics turns this depression around with real unemployment at 20%. NOT.

Democrats have destroyed the U.S. economy. If the U.S. will never recover. Reagan's deregulation and tax decreases were creating 5 million private sector jobs per year. You think this report means that? You really believe those times will ever be back? think again. Democrats have imposed 80,000 pages of government regulations on businesses. Try to start a new business in that, you democrat.

Obama’s anti-business policies continue to destroy jobs and Americans suffer as a result.

At least traffic is getter a lot better as more and more people either can't afford a car or have no job to drive to.

However, the U6 unemployment rate, which includes the underemployed and those who have given up looking for employment, rose from 16.7% in August to 17.1% in September, its highest level since October 2009. So true unemployment rose substantially. Naturally, this won’t be reported in the leftist-controlled media.

I think that the unemployment numbers will “unexpectly” become accurate ago go over 10%. Then the MSM and the Hussien Administration can blame the GOP controlled Congress for it.

That is close to the figures at shadowstats.

Now factor in the effect of people working part time who need full time work, people whose salaries have not kept up with inflation, people who took pay cuts to keep their jobs, and all the upcoming increase in taxes plus costs associated with zerocare.

Yet we continue to bring in 125,000 new legal workers (guest workers and green cards) each MONTH, and ~8 million illegal aliens (some of whom are visa overstays) have jobs.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
