Mark Kirk for Senate (Chicago Tribune Endorsement)
Chicago Tribune ^ | 10/7/2010 | Tribune Editorial Board

Posted on 10/07/2010 8:49:15 PM PDT by Inyokern

In 2010, the citizens of Illinois should send to the Capitol a senator who will bring expertise and independence. The candidate who fits that bill is Mark Kirk.

Today the Tribune endorses Kirk, a Republican, for the U.S. Senate seat that Roland Burris soon vacates. To understand our verdict, watch Giannoulias and Kirk's appearance before us this week. You'll find the video at chicagotribune.com/senate. Judge each man's depth and preparedness for the job. Judge knowledge and scope. Judge accomplishment. Judge which candidate has a proven record of thoughtful independence — of bucking his party when the good of this nation is at stake. You won't have difficulty making these judgments.

We need to get behind whoever is the Republican nominee in all cases where the nominee is not to the left of the Democrat (which is not the case here).

On social issues, Kirk is to the left of Giannoulias. Kirk is the kind of guy who will sponsor abortion funding. Kirk is the guy that the media will go to when they need a Republican head to show how "reasonable" the lefty position is. Poop on rye is no better than poop for lunch.

I agree that Rep. Kirk is more liberal than many Democrats.

According to www.vote-smart.org, these are some of Rep. Kirk’s latest interest group ratings: Planned Parenthood, 100%; AFL-CIO, 48%: ACLU, 45%; NAACP, 44%; NEA, B; Americans for Democratic Action, 35%; Gun Owners of America, F-; ACU, 58%.; and John Birch Society, 33%. Each of these ratings is for the latest year that is available, usually 2010 or ’09. None of them is a lifetime rating. I plan to vote for Labno.

Bob's reply in #160 is an excellent read and worth pinging to all Kirk supporters. The problem with Kirk supporters is they only see the immediate "feel good" effect of having "Obama's senate seat" go to a "Republican". They don't care or realize about the long term damage of having a lying leftist combiner in that seat for six years. It's that kind of thinking that "we MUST defeat the Dem at any cost" that got us Ahnuld in California.

arrogantsob: IF you think, whaddya think of establishing a threshold at say $250,000 of annual income so that anyone reaching that threshold is just sooooooo useful to the economy that it justifies complete tax exemption from dollar one??? For self-centered you, no taxes at all! Just let the wogs pay, right? Why shouldn't your taxes be paid instead by those useless teenaged louts who flip burgers at Mickey D's? After all, are you not an inherent member of the Ruling Class with far more important priorities than the burger flippers? If not, why not?

I am also awaiting not only your obviously nonexistent resume of conservative accomplishment but also proof that you are a citizen of Illinois and therefore qualified to chime in on whom we Illinoisans should elect to the Senate.

And anyone who fails to worship your false god of mindless materialism is a RINO???? Riiiiight!!!! And social conservatives are just footstools for the materialistically obsessed???? Likewise!

If you see yourself as a strawman, who am I to disagree? The strawman (scarecrow) in Wizard of OZ was the one seeking a brain. Yeah, makes sense. There is nothing you can add to the debate because nothing is the maximum of what you have as weapons in the debate.

Just keep telling yourself that you are safe from a revolt against materialism on the right. Materialism, dialectical or otherwise, is a a false god. Personally, I would tax Lowell Weicker until he bleeds. Nancy Boy Kirk as well. I'd tax you too. And Muffy and Skipper and the trust fund babies.

What I am honored by is your disagreement. If and only if I find myself EVER agreeing with your materialism uber alles, I will double check my premises.

Wanna document your last paragraph? I didn't think so.

Ruling Class? Country Class? Country Class each and every time.

Each individual baby is infinitely more valuable than any tax cut you can conceive (and lust after) for folks of your ilk.

There is what Mark Kirk says (bull$hit) and what Mark Kirk does (votes) and you have been repeatedly schooled on that in your liberal pushing threads.

liberal pushing threads.

Liberal pushing threads? Look, there are only two candidates who might win this race. I am supporting the more conservative of the two. The other, Giannoulias, is an Obama clone. I REALLY do not want Giannoulias in the US Senate.

It looks like Gov. Dave Heineman (who is no Hagel) will take the plunge against Nelson in ‘12. The big question is whether Nelson will stick around to have his butt thrashed (polling indicated Heineman would win by a 2-to-1 margin).

If any of you vote for Kirk, you will need to apologize to the rest of us repeatedly in the coming years.

Exactly. I know if Kirk is elected and I voted for him he'd make me regret it. So I'm not.

Most of them won't apologize, they will rationalize it. Some people are still defending Arnold. This one guy once prattled on to me about half dozen little things he did right, while missing the big picture.

A lot people simply can't get past the party control argument and have no interest in looking more deeply. They come here and don't know what the combine is and they get cheeky and defensive. They can't let themselves think they were ignorant therefore they think we must all be nuts.

Heard today on Hannity (WROK -1440AM Rockford)

NRLC-PAC ad blasting Giannoulias for being pro-abort. NO MENTION that Kirk is at least as pro-abort. No mention of Labno, just that one ought not vote for Giannoulias.

If the Republican Party qualifies as the “Stupid Party,” the NRLC qualifies as the “Stupid Pro-Life Organization.”

There are worthier races for them to spend pro-life dollars.

The NRLC email address is NRLC@nrlc.org. Please email them today and tell them that Kirk’s latest rating from Planned Parenthood is 100%.

I e-mailed them and the ICRC list. I also sent another copy of the e-mail to their pac (pac@nrlc.org) as that is the organization that sponsored the ad.

As several groups use the acronym RLC it is necessary to state that it is the

National Right to Life Committee, the social conservative group that is idiots and not the

Natioal Republican Liberty Caucus, the libertaria group that are not idiots.

Kirk is not libertarian on a single issue that I know of. He is for a big gubmint program for everything. He just wants it to be a RINO big gubmint program rather than a Dim big gubmint program.

I hate to tell you this because I know this is the last thing you want to hear but Bill Brady gave an endorsement for Mark Kirk yesterday.

Keep in mind there were a ton of local Republican politicians and GOP enthusisasts. But he said, and we are going to "help retire Harry Reid". I don't recall if he specifically mentioned Kirk but he was referring to that race because he spent a minute talking about the Senate.

Do not let this sway you from voting for Brady, he is the perfect person to replace the incompotent goon Quinn.

Down in Homer Glen? I almost went to that.

Do not let this sway you from voting for Brady

Course not. It's to be expected. I assumed he endorsed Kirk months ago. He's a loyal Republican.

If you weren’t a dumbass but actually cared to investigate you would find that the rich pay most of the income taxes and they pay EVEN MORE when the tax rates drop. The Bottom 50% of taxpayers pay NO federal income taxes contrary to the crap your democrat friends spew.

So your socialist schemes could be paid for best with low tax rates. Your alleged hero Reagan understood this perfectly (being trained in economics in college) and when his tax RATE cuts were put in the total tax REVENUE went UP dramatically. But the RAT Congress (made up of people like The Greek you love) spent even more than was brought in by new tax revenue.

Some one who pretends to be a conservative flunks the basic idea of Reaganomics and shows himself to be nothing more than a class warfare promoting RAT.
