An investigation has been launched into the behavior of a member of the city council in Vancouver City, Wash., after she lost her cool at a meeting when people wanted to argue over a light rail plan, ordered one member of the public out of the room, ordered the council chairman to "gavel down" a constituent, and ordered a colleague on the council to "Shut up!"
The situation developed as members of the public were in attendance to express concerns about a light rail program.
Harris told one speaker not to address individual members of the committee, and when he questioned the censorship she appeared to be suggesting, she stated, "This is our meeting and we'll have it the way we want it."
When the speaker again mentioned a council member's name, she erupted, "What are you doing?"
She ordered the chairman to "Gavel him down. Gavel him down. Gavel down."
Harris eventually left the meeting while it still was in progress, only to return after its conclusion and berate other members of the council.
"You do not chastise me like that," she warned, prompting the comment from Councilwoman Jeanne Stewart, "You need to go somewhere and get sane. Go somewhere and fix yourself ... You need to settle down."
Harris' response? "Shut up!"
According to the Oregonian, Harris, whose antics have brought considerable unwanted attention to the city, was out of the country on a fellowship but issued an apology, stating she, "behaved in a manner that is not normal for me."
Mayor Tim Leavitt in a statement to the newspaper came her to defense, saying the videos have resulted "in more of a condemnation of Councilmember Harris than is deserved."
But the newspaper reported locals are so upset they've demanded her removal from office.

With her penchant for censorship of free speech, could she be a liberal/progressive?
More truth than we should see or here is more like it. It's like the audience isn't sophisticated enough to make an informed decision on what they are seeing. Their voters may enjoy being talked down to though. It wouldn't fly too smooth here.
Typical liberal who can’t stand to have anyone disagree with her.
There will be myriad examples of such behavior in the next few years.
Weed these clowns out at the lowest levels of government so they don’t end up in DC screaming about being called “Ma’am”.
Perhaps this was the real Willie Green.
We all need to be attending our city council meetings and bringing a friend. Shine the light on what they are.
It's the same with my city council. Whenever one of the peons address them, the mayor sits with his chin on his fist, with the most disinterested look on his face, like some sort of pompous Caesar. Same with most of the council, they act as if they are bored with it all, openly showing their contempt. Unless, of course, they are listening to the demands of one of the working poor/social justice crowd. They tend to get their way.
I can’t believe you really went there! :-)
Wow, was Willie Green there too? Who knew that lightrail could be so divisive and violent?
1.Lather
2.Recall
3.Rinse
4.Repeat
That woman should be institutionalized and the Mayor should be gaveled down and ordered out...of office. What a pitiful excuse for leadership. That entire city should feel embarrassed over this display and look carefully the next election at their decision to elect a bunch of crazies and fools....the only one with any gumption and sense was the blonde....she should be Mayor.
Liberals truly believe they know what is best for all. Savage is right. Liberalism is a mental disorder.
> Mayor Tim Leavitt in a statement to the newspaper came her to defense
I saw the video.
What this communist apparatchik Harris did was INEXCUSABLE for ANY reason! Whgat a DISGRACE!
And the Mayor, Tim Leavitt, rolled over for her like a whipped dog. What a PATHETIC performance! Another DISGRACE!
A *REAL* mayor would have gotten on his feet, looked down on the commie RAT and reminded her that the First Amendment recognizes the right of the people to “petition the government for redress of grievances”.
This is a First Amendment issue on both fronts.
Free speech, and the right to petition for redress of grievances.
Both of these rights were denied and disparaged by the apparatchik Harris.
I hope the people recall her and boot her out of office.
She should be tarred, feathered, run out of town on a rail, and banished forever from entering the city limits.
Better yet, she should be arrested as an enemy of the people and charged with violation of her oath of office, malfeasance, and violating the people’s trust. Then she should be exiled to Venezuela or some other communist paradise.
It’s long past time these “public servants” realized WHO THE BOSS IS!!!
Wow. Just wow. If that unhinged b*tch isn’t thrown out of office it will be a travesty. She has no place on a city council with that kind of demeanor.
I would also suggest to Mayor Leavitt that he immediately look into an emergency testicle transplant, since he seems to have lost his. I fully expected him to run over to the corner and cower like a little girl.
Self-ping for later viewing and ridicule.
“”With her penchant for censorship of free speech, could she be a liberal/progressive?””
Or a member of the FR Palin Fanatic Club.
Check out the poll they are running here:

Now that we’ve heard quite a bit about Vancouver City Council member Jeannie Harris’ infamous “gavel down” meltdown, I’m thinking:
The public humiliation has been enough punishment for her. Let her get back to doing the city’s business.
It sounds like city officials can’t force her off the council, but she should take the high road and resign.
Remember that mouthpiece Dr. Hannibal Lecter wore in “The Silence of the Lambs?” Is it available?
