Rep. Ted Poe (R.-Texas), who served for 30 years as a Texas prosecutor and judge before being elected to Congress, introduced legislation last week designed to force President Barack Obama to deploy a minimum of 10,000 National Guard troops at the U.S. Mexico border for the specific purpose of patrolling the border and intercepting aliens and smugglers attempting to cross illegally into the United States.
The legislation would allow the president to deploy more than 10,000 National Guardsmen, but not fewer.
The president could put more than that, but he must put 10,000, Poe told CNSNews.com. The uniqueness of this is they would be paid by the federal government, because everybody says it is the responsibility of the federal government to protect the border. So the federal government will use the resources it already has to pay for those 10,000 National Guard troops, but they will be supervised by the governors of the four states on the border.
Poe, who serves on the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Terrorism and the Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, told CNSNews.com in a videotaped interview that America was projecting such a weak image around the world in failing to protect its southern border that people were traveling from all around the world to Mexico so they could enter the U.S. illegally from there.
Every country in the world knows the United States will not protect the sovereignty of its country, and will not protect especially the southern border, said Poe. So, when someone wants to come to the United States, they figure out a way to come to Mexico and then come to the United States.

Too Many.
The downsizing of our armed forces, forced the use of National Guard.
That's my congressman. Right on, right on, right on. Let's git 'er dun!
I think that a LOT of Texans have been wondering why Perry won't send our own Guard to the border.
We can ask him, but I doubt that we'll get a satisfactory answer. He's as much a globalist RINO as Bush was, about the border and national sovereignty.
As they say here in Texas, "All hat - no cattle."
Too bad this is unconstitutional. Congress is not invested with the power to control US armed forces. Congress only controls the funding of troops.
Where is Blackjck Pershing when we really need him? and where is a C.I.C. with the nads to issue the orders ?
I like this idea.
How many dead Mexicans will it take before the message becomes clear? 100? 500? 1,000?
One thousand dead Mexicans seems like a small price to pay to end the problem.
Like anyoine in a position of authority in this country gives a damn about legal.
We have an illegal as President. No one say’s a word.
No one say's a word.
I dunno. We've been screaming at the tops of our lungs for three years now. People are noticing.
Constitutionality notwithstanding, this will keep attention on the border issue--democrats and RINOs hate this...
Damn shame Perry is a RINO!
If Texas had a governor like Sam Houston, the Texas Rangers would already have taken Mexico City and hung the president of Mexico for allowing the murder of a Texan!
We have to get rid of white trash like Perry in the next election, and start putting fighters like old Sam Houston in office.
REMEMBER THE ALAMO!
Scream at the polls this year. Elect enough Republicans and maybe—Maybe—they will listen.
I’m with you.
Well, Congress does have the power to declare war, which is what should be done in order to activate the necessary military apparatus to repel this invasion.
It's one of the FEW responsibilities that the Constitution invests in the federal government. I honestly don't give a damn how the suits in Washington get it done - they just need to get off their asses and protect this country.
Amen. It's long past time for someone to do the sane thing, and activate our own state militia to repel this invasion.
Just like Arizona had to bypass the feds to enforce control on their own southern border, the people of Texas (and the other border states) may have to bypass their own state governments to put a stop to this.
Our so-called leaders are obviously incapable of doing what needs to be done. If we leave it up to these frozen corpses to protect us, we're doomed.
When is the next election for governor in Texas?
If someone with guts gets elected and moves to secure the border without the Feds, the action would be a real game changer, because I don’t believe the gutless wonders in D.C. would do anything effective to stop it.
The governor's race is on right now. We had our primary earlier this year. Perry is running against Democrat Bill White, ex-mayor of Houston.
There's also a Libertarian in the race (she's a Freeper - goes by kathie4guv). Of the three, she's the only one who's convinced me that she really will do something to close our southern border.
The other two are just paying the usual lip service to the issue to appease their bases.
When our state legislature convenes next year, there will be at least one Arizona-style anti-illegal immigration bill generated. The concept has 65% support of Texas voters, so there'll be a lot of push on the legislature and the Governor to get it passed into law.
