EPA's Long War on Chemicals
The Canada Free Press ^ | 10/3/2010 | Alan Caruba

One of the shows I enjoy watching on the Science Channel is “How It’s Made.” All manner of things we use to enhance our lives start out as raw materials and the process of manufacture is a miracle of transformation.

Virtually all forms of manufacturing require some chemical element, often several. Given the indispensability of chemicals in society and commerce, does it strike anyone as odd that, if you were born after 1960, there’s a high likelihood that you grew up being told that “chemicals” are bad?

In 1962 Rachel Carson kicked off this bizarre notion with her bestselling book ...

Some chemicals are worse than others, but let’s look at the real facts here.

The alarmists will telll you that everything under the sun is killing us, yet one of the big problems we face is that our elders are now living too long and are depleting our resources. These same folks lived thru the very same time where there was a lot of chemical use and very little regulation.

Another government benefit brought to you by Richard M. Nixon. What on earth was he thinking?

Beam me to Planet Gore !
EPA: An unelected, flunky bureaucracy populated with radical, no-growth, Marxist, environmental nut-jobs wielding rogue powers based in junk science. A cancer on the private sector. Ultimately, the EPA is not about the environment. It is about legislating from the Executive Branch in Soviet Agency style. It has the convenient unconstitutional feature of allowing the Obama Administration to pursue an extreme global warming agenda, to make energy prices necessarily sky-rocket, and gain sweeping regulatory control over the US economy without a politically difficult vote in congress.

It is astounding how much damage Green Republicans have done to our overall economy over the last 30-40 years, especially with the advent of the EPA under Nixon. However, in Nixon’s early 1970’s, the EPA was initially designed to be a much more benign agency that it is now. Back then they were focused on real solvable problems. Today, the EPA is focused on solving insoluable problems, and when impossible demands are not met, more regulations are forthcoming.

Well said. Today the states could be far more effective in dealing with real problems without the EPA.

The threat of overpopulation is all a ruse. Malthusian math has been completely discredited now for more than 200 years, yet people still cling to this malignant doctrine. They even found a text dating back clear back to ancient patriarchal times that stated that the world was flooded by water because there were too many people and they were too noisy.

Never even tried to read it.

However, I've been to weddings at which the bride/groom read a passage from it.

I always thought it was Carson's revenge on humanity from beyond-the-grave for going on without her.

Perusing the on-screen tv listings, one of the local PBS stations described a Carson program as something along the lines of "...her criticism of the chemical industry was without the bias expected of her cancer affliction..."

Not exactly sure when "carcinogen" was deemed verified, but the lead scientist was one of the first that went looking for anti-carcinogens.

My favorite story is that he had his grad students do tests on cheeseburgers, and the Velveeta-covered burger scored the best in the carcinogen/anti-carcinogen ratio.

I know that many conservatives routinely compare enviros to reds, but this is a false comparison. Environmentalism has far more affinity with National Socialism than it does with Communism precisely because fascism was based on nature, whereas Marxism is based on humanism. National Socialism was pantheistic, but Marxism was atheistic. When reds become green, they are in fact moving over to fascism. It is better to say that when you mix green with red, you get brown.
